Male 1 How long does it take to fill up a hot air balloon like this?
Male 2 Typically about 10 to 15 minutes, it is a cold pack on the ground like they going like here .
Male 1 Okay, you describe the process a little bit? Just pumping the hot air in?
Male 2 Absolutely
Male 2 Right know we use a fan like this and will use that fan to take cold brown there and pack in to the envelope and once we get about 3 quarters of the weight filled with cold air and get it stabilize we will light the burner and we will fire a flame into envelope and hit that air that is in the envelope and that will cause that air to rise and turn to pick up the fabric and stand the balloon up and that walks away also help inflate the balloon to fullest inflation size. And once you get to a certain temperature usually depends on the outside air temperature, you will gain lift and you will get the balloon buoyant and then start to fly and then it is a matter of maintaining that heat to keep it flying level or ascending or letting it cool. There is two ways you can either let it cool naturally by not adding hear or we have a what they called parachutes bulb on it which you can see here the black and there is a rope from that bulb down to the basket and we can pull that rope and then will open the fabric and let air out of it and heat of that way and initiate of descent you will.
Male: How long you have been doing this?
Male: I have been doing since 1998 and incurring on all different types of balloons and currently a student pilot. Hopefully this summer I have my private pilot license and we will be able to fly one on my own
Male: Okay, what’s the farthest you have traveled in one?
Male: I think the farthest flight we had is in about 12 miles about an hour and 10 minutes I think…
