When learning how to do three clubs. You realize it’s just the same as doing three balls except you go to spin to worry about of the club. When I first started practicing, I simply took one club and I would throw it back and fort. Again try to hit those imaginary points above my shoulder.
Now a lot of people when they learned to do clubs, they want to like spin the—just throw the club up and the club will spin itself because of the weight. Alright, so once you get comfortable, again you do not want to reach for the club, you just want it to come down. Once you get comfortable especially with your weak hand. There is a tendency for people to overcompensate and spin too much with their weak hand.
Now you are ready for two clubs and just like you do with two balls. I’m going to throw one up and one first club. It is over here. I will throw the second one underneath it. And again don’t worry about spinning it. It will spin itself.
A lot of times when people are just learning how to do clubs, one club will be in and the other club will be out. And that is just something for you to think about and really focus on especially with your weak hand, making sure that you do not throw the club way out there. So you want to make sure the club stays parallel about a foot in front of you.
Once you got comfortable doing two clubs. You throw the right hand first and then the left hand first and you are going back and fort alternating which club starts, now you are probably ready for the third club. And the only difficult thing with the third club is the first throw.
What generally happens a lot of times—the club like gets locked and it does not quite, you know, it hits the club and goes all over. So what I’ll try to do is really put this third club way back of my hand and really reach out and just with the thumb and maybe my index finger or two. I am holding the club there. In that way it won’t collide with this club when I throw it. And so it is simply just like the three balls, let the club spin itself.
One last thing I will point out is when I catch it. When you catch the club, you do not catch it down here because what will happen is you lose a little control. I try to generally catch it up as high on the handle as I can and closer to black line more so than the knob. And it just will give you a little bit more control when you catch and throw.
And that is the basics of three clubs.
