Hi. My name is Millette and today I’m gonna be preparing my personal favorite, basil pastel for a delicious pasta dinner.
For this stage, we will need basil, garlic, parmesan cheese, lightly toasted peanuts, olive oil and a pinch of salt and pepper. Now, let's begin.
After rinsing your basil, lightly pat it dry. Now take the leaves off the stems. You’ll need two cups. Next we will need to mince three cloves of garlic. Always be careful when using a knife and point it away from yourself. You don’t want a deadly accident. Now grate a half of parmesan. Like knives, graters can be very dangerous. Be careful while using one.
Earlier, I already toasted 1/3 cup peanuts and let it completely cool. Now, let's measure ½ cup of extra virgin olive oil. Make sure to go eye level when measuring. Now, let’s mix things up. Always make sure to screw the lid on tight. Hold your hand on top, turn on, pulse. Combine the basil and with the nuts and pulse a few more times. Always make sure the food processor is off when putting your hands inside. Now, let's pulse a few more times. Pulse until it’s into tiny bits, add garlic and pulse. While the food processor is running, pour the olive oil--carefully pour the olive oil in. Now, take the lid off. Carefully scrape the side and stem and add the parmesan cheese. While you put the lid back on and pulse a bit more until combined. Now, add the salt and pepper to taste and mix it up.
Now that the basil pastel is ready, let's set it aside and cook the pasta. My first personal favorite is Sicilian, where you can choose your favorite to personalize this dish.
Now that the pasta is done boiling, I will add the pastel. Now, I will toss the pastel and the pasta and dinner will almost be done. Pastel can be eaten for dinner even for a delicious snack. For the finishing touch, I’ll add a bit of parmesan cheese. This gives it a nice presentation—delicious!
When cooking, always remember the tips of wash. Wash all food and utensils, ask permission, straighten out your work place and most importantly, have fun.
