Just buy a cheap ($10) floodlight with a passive IR thermal detector built into it, open the box and tap into the relay that powers the light bulb. Alternatively, remove the bulb and use a current sensing circuit across its socket. Run a cable from that into your home and use it to drive a piezo sounder or something.. Mount the unit 10ft above ground facing your drive and it should pickup just about anything moving towards it.

Walmart sells a wireless motion censer like a motion floodlight uses and has a wireless chime for in the home for 20 bucks!! You can't jump over it or go around it if you know its there! No wires just 3C cells and a 9Volt and its easily movable and has 300ft range, We have one on our pool that also covers our backdoor and garage area sensitivity can be set to not go off on cats or small animals, tape on sensor will narrow coverage area if needed too!
