Hi, I am Joyann, Fashion Editor of Ellegirl.com and this is Self Made Girl.
Today I am here with Carisa Brambles, designer of Nightcap Clothing to give me a launch work that is comfortable to wear at your bedroom or even out on the street.
Today we are making our own version of Carisa’s fairy headband, inspired by the free spirited runways of Nina Ricci and celebrities like Mary Kate and Mischa Barton. This summer of love hair is easy to make on your own. Carisa I love your varying headband, what inspires that?
Carisa: We sort of making them because we were putting them in our photo shoots and that everybody wanted them so we started making them for the collection and we made four strands of leather to do a double braid which is quietly come out so special.
Joyann: I guess, it is solid or pick for colors.
Carisa: Yes, you can basically get creative. You can do two different colors and you can do four different colors or just solid and we need crystals and beads and if you want, you could garment some feathers which is always fun.
Joyann: I love you for being creative like that.
Carisa: Yes. This had been really fun and they are easy to make to. First take the four strands of leather and then at the end it is kind of like to make it uneven. So when it jingles at the back of your hair you have different length. Tie it into knot at the end but leave it about like five inches of leather at the end. So—
Joyann: Do this to one knot.
Carisa: Yes, just one knot at the end is perfect. Now you need something heavy as a whole to the leather down so you can braid it evenly. So hold this strands of leather flat because you want the braid to come out smooth and then it makes you to do a double braid, so you take three strands of leather and you are going to take the one on the right and you are going to first go over the first one, under the second one and then over the third one. So then take the one on the right again, and go over, under, over. It is kind of making a linear during your school.
Okay, so once you are pretty much halfway finished with the braid, you want to take a crystal or something in the center of the headband so you can wrap it around and it has something to hang from. So take one of these little crystals or before you do that, you want to tie a knot in the braid.
Take one of these strands of leather and make sure it is in the center, just pull out the knot and then put this little crystal or bead, anything suggests—have a little knob or something that you can tie it later around when you put it on your head and then you just tie it up and then after you do that you want to tie another knot and then keep going, keep braiding. Okay so I have been braided long enough, so let us just turn on and then we can get to the fun part where we can embellish them. We have stars, and beads, some crystals, if you want to put some more crystals on them you can.
Joyann: Okay, so I would just again put it through one of the middle ones, knot it and keep braiding or—
Carisa: You can knot it wherever you want, and just let it tangle.
Joyann: Oh, I love that. So there is really no reasons for doing this. It is just—
Carisa: Alright voila, we are finished.
Joyann: I think I will just put on my final star, is it not so cute. How do I wear it?
Carisa: Well you can tangle it freely, you can wear it across your forehead or you can just tie it in a knot and you wear around the crown of your hair. Turn around, mode l them.
Joyann: Oh I love heavy make noises.
Carisa: They are fun. Just be creative with the use and just make sure of the eye color and a lot of charms to fit it or even feathers that you are on.
