Gary Vaynerchuck: All right, now there’s dock(ph) tea on these wines.
Meynard: Yes there is
Gary Vaynerchuck: So real tasting barrels?
Meynard: Yes, these are the barrel tasting so you know it’s quite been integrated yet—
Gary Vaynerchuck: So what is this?
Meynard: This is a 100% carbonated drink from Jerome.
Gary Vaynerchuck: No, this is going to be under what label?
Meynard: Caduceus
Gary Vaynerchuck: So this is the Caduceus Judith’s Cabernet.
Meynard: Yes.
Gary Vaynerchuck: And this is going to be the ‘07 Judith’s Cab.
Meynard: The ‘07 Judith’s Cab
Gary Vaynerchuck: Right. And seven months in offering out so its 75 neutral and 25% in two year French coke, very cool.
Meynard: They’re very first 0157 this.
Gary Vaynerchuck: The wine is exactly in Judith?
Meynard: It’ll let you coming back.
Gary Vaynerchuk: Very nice.
Meynard: That’s where her ashes are spread.
Gary Vaynerchuck: Really? At the vineyard?
Meynard: These are little wings.
Gary Vaynerchuck: So really tasting Judith, I mean this has pretty cool stuff. Let’s have a very nice cheers on that. Was she into wine?
Meynard: No.
Gary Vaynerchuk: Not at all. She was more like a whisky drinker?
[Laughing]
Gary Vaynerchuck: So what’s going to be—
Male: That explains a lot about me in the room, you know.
Meynard:: Yeah.
Gary Vaynerchuck: So man what price point is this going to rule in at
Meynard:: I don’t know yet, we’re going to see.
Gary Vaynerchuck: Now is this much—in the ‘06 vintage, what did you make under your label.
Meynard:: ‘06 was almost account for under food and so—
Gary Vaynerchuck: Right.
Meynard:: So this is actually the very first of the caduceus stuff.
Gary Vaynerchuk: This is the firs caduceus Arizona—
Meynard:: Northern Arizona
Gary Vaynerchuck: Tell all the vayniacs what do we mean by that. So caduceus down here but all California fruit for how many vintages that would--]
Meynard:: ‘04, ‘05, and ‘06 and there’s a little bit of half of the ‘07 is still well more than half of the ‘07 is still California fruit.
Gary Vaynerchuck: But the Judith’s is going to be—
Meynard:: The Judith is—
Gary Vaynerchuck: I’m sure you’re excited about this.
Meynard:: Yeah, very much. This is my first—
Gary Vaynerchuck: You feel like this is really worth starting?
Meynard:: Right.
Gary Vaynerchuck: That was kind of training. We know we are getting cropped together, they can get out—
Meynard:: But for more as I was mentioning and gagging and meeting him, this is the vines that was really 0318
Gary Vaynerchuck: So this is what you’re—
Meynard:: Crazy, those side of 0319 looks like a twirl you know like this you know stick you know both sides just I have to—
Gary Vaynerchuck: Do you know what kind of 0332 you’re picking out here. I mean this is like this—
Meynard:: This is only 90 cases. This has been my change in the—
Gary Vaynerchuck: 90 cases—
Male: By 90 cases, very cool.
Gary Vaynerchuck: And what can you with that? They will be wasted out?
Meynard: And listen to 0347
Gary Vaynerchuck: All right, let’s give a snippy sniff.
Meynard: Wow!
Gary Vaynerchuck: Big aromatics. Now this is a 100% cab?
Meynard: Yeah.
Gary Vaynerchuck: Yeah, you could tell—even in the darkness comes right through. I mean this is a dark night up in here, I mean just real serious—there’s also like I get almost like a fall leaves come on and going on here. You know like road brush which I like quite a bit. Very dark, you got very heavy layers of cassis coming through on the nose as well, really pure, delicious cassis, very nice nose, classic carbonados, 0423 in the 0425 let’s give it a whirl.
Oh this is fragile.
Meynard: The great!
Male: How many of vines do you have planted in this 0443
Meynard: 666
Gary Vaynerchuck: [Laughs] That was awesome! That’s by accident of course!
Meynard: Of course.
Male: Oh it’s like 60 0456, it’s like another 16—yeah we’re like we have about 650 vines. How many more—
Gary Vaynerchuck: You know I’ve got to tell you what, this is very Bordeauxlic.
Meynard: Yap.
Gary Vaynerchuck: This is very rough back. I mean this is huge black hawk, I mean this is very—now it’s very young—so it should—
Meynard: Yeah, it’s not even bottled.
Gary Vaynerchuck: Right. So the pannings would be really obvious in your face but very sweet which is a very good sign but this is very you know rough back to me, I mean this is you know there’s a little sunshine going on there that maybe would mean and make me say it California but I would say somebody whose doing—
Male: Whose 0531 there in the middle.
Gary Vaynerchuck: But I love—I don’t know who really influenced the decision on the Oak but there’s that I think has helped—
Meynard: 0534 this week.
Gary Vaynerchuck: I think you guys are crushing with that. I think this one would be crushing with New Oak.
Meynard: Across the board we’ll try to keep the old office now.
Male: Well you don’t be really—
Gary Vaynerchuck: Not with a friend.
Male: We really should put a plug in here because you know I’m kind of a director of wine making as it’s mannered and we have two guys where our wine makers—
Gary Vaynerchuck: Yeah, let’s give them a shout out.
Male: Now actually Tim is—where did he go?
Gary Vaynerchuck: Tim?
Male: He’s down the hall. Tim’s a winemaker at Stronghold and Joe Bouchard here and Joe definitely plays a major role in helping the safety and we definitely are all done not over up to the wine.
Gary Vaynerchuck: Clearly, I mean guys—
Male: And we got on hammered on Oak and anything here yet.
Gary Vaynerchuck: Meynard’s very 0611 for way too much money but if it’s not this is absolutely positively a play. This is much more of my style in a lot of ways. I will say one thing I would like to see and I think this is going to happen as to vineyard develops a little bit more 0628 in the producing hair. by love the racer focus of the fruit in this vendor and it is definitely close to very much an old world play with a little new—with a little bit of kind of like a 98-year-old Eastern European guy whose walking around with an iPhone. It’s all old school but just a hint of the new score and that’s why I kind of look in to line you. You know outside you get a description of your wine like that.
Meynard: Yeah, no. Rich is mentioning your name when you were in here.
Rich: Tim, these are one acres from the 0700 yeah, you were down the hall.
Gary Vaynerchuck: I like this wine. It’s very simple, this goes like 89 to 92 points, we’ll see how it evolves and I guess it’s a big potential.
Meynard: I want to get back to 98.
Gary Vaynerchuck: Very nice man [Laughing]. Do you have any idea whatsoever range of price point on this or no clue?
Meynard: Over 50
Gary Vaynerchuck: So small?
Meynard: Because it’s such an exclusive barely half an acre of vine like—
Gary Vaynerchuck: All right, but this is really nice. Obviously without kicks and egos and jokes t this is very solid. Again, if you’re a little bit more of a Bordeaux player I think you’ll really enjoy. This is very good. All right, that was really nice. And what do we got here?
Meynard: Tempranillo, this is Tempranillo from our souvenirs in the vineyards.
Gary Vaynerchuck: So this is back to the other areas of stretch—
Meynard: This is going to be a caduceus wine.
Gary Vaynerchuck: Oh, this is going to be a caduceus wine.
Meynard: Best source from the Arizona Stronghold 0800
Gary Vaynerchuck: And so it’s going to be a Caduceus Tempranillo or it’s going to be Sancha
Meynard: Sancho is the name of the 0805
Gary Vaynerchuck: And what does Sancha mean?
Meynard: Sancha is—it’s going to be labeled just like this too.
[Laughing]
Meynard: Sancha is going to be like your mistress. I like that you know I was in Spain and—
Gary Vaynerchuck: He found my—mine, physically mine.
Meynard: I was in Spain and I’m texting Eric from Spain going “Eric, I’m in Spain. I met someone 0827 Tempranillo. Don’t tell Sara, I love her dude.
Gary Vaynerchuck: Very cool! So that’s actually pretty neat.
Meynard: So Sancha is the name of your mistress ‘cause I’ll set you here to 0838 so that’s meant for her when I discovered Tempranillo 0843.
Gary Vaynerchuck: Yeah, she’s slapped you off?
Meynard: She slapped me on.
Male: And this is even younger as well. This is an old ‘07 stone barrel. It’s going to be there in a while.
Gary Vaynerchuck: It’s a three-year French coke.
Male: Yap, one single barrel. We have one barrel of this block. It was the first harvest from Arizona.
Gary Vaynerchuk: So you’re going to make 25 cases of this?
Meynard: 24 I guess.
Male: Yeah, depending on how often we can 0901 the barrel.
Gary Vaynerchuk: Skip it to the top. [Laughs] All right so let’s give this a snippy sniff. So are you looking to make you know 0909 style of wine?
Meynard; Yeah, absolutely!
Gary Vaynerchuck: Very fruity, I get a lot of star burst skittles action, I feel like I’m riding the rainbow or the skittles rainbow. There’s so much candy asked flavors, little 0924 action really like the candy aspects.
Meynard: But it doesn’t have that sausage character you get in a lot of the new world Tempranillos in Spain that has the wood’s—
Gary Vaynerchuck: It seems we’re on the sausage feast right now. I mean it’s just goes some way.
Male: Yeah, with a rainbow 09360 care bear.
Gary Vaynerchuck: Yeah, I’m a huge care bear guy. Last fruit I get a little orange peel on the nose here with that you got quite a bit with young temp, let’s give it a shot. Very tight, very tight and tooth puckering. This wine is a little bit of an anomaly for me. I think it’s still going to pretty much at funky stage. This is a very tough time to evaluate it so because I don’t want to get my face spitted 1010 for one of the question mark on it right now ‘cause it is—no but it is a very awkward stage with this wine. When are you bottling this?
Meynard: Probably until next year.
Gary Vaynerchuck: Yeah, so I mean this is just a little—just ahead early. I mean this is still, if the 1022 into a completely gripping the entire midpalette and disappearing when into the finish, very tight. But you know have you worked with Tim from this vineyard before? Do you know what’s happening here? You just kind of little let’s see what happens.
Male: The funny thing about this block is that1037 bottle and right next to our 1038 and apparently the owner got “Tempranillo” cutting some deck and they also got some certified 1047 was whole block and a bunch of it was pink and a bunch of it was tiny dark black berries, you know and I remember going there when I bought—I bought fruit from these guys for repurchase of the vineyard, we’re going 1100 what’s it’s look like Pinot Grigio or something you know in here and they will always pick it together so it probably don’t damage the Tempranillo and so nobody to this day really knows what was the other ground for—so we just yanked them all up. I actually took cuttings from—to clearway the 1112 and grab to the minds to the Pinot Grigio—
Gary Vaynerchuck: Sure!
Male: And we’ve gotten more so this was the first crop of that and I think what I’m seeing here as a wine makers is there’s a lot of concentration and density here. To me I agree with you with still some timecard say you know the whole heat is like off the church it could mean very candid and it’s like drinking tonight you know you don’t even know that it is yet. Anytime would note that matter on no mater.
Gary Vaynerchuck: So let’s spend the last couple of minutes ‘cause this is clearly two-part of 1146 how long were we in now? 40, so that will be on the two parts. Now give me another five minutes. What I think what I really want to talk about really for the family is tell me what you know the excitement of what’s going on here in Arizona, what’s happened over the last 12 months. You know you guys are really, really pioneering the you know the hype which is so important, you know which is bringing the intention to the masses and you know where do you see things? Have you seen three or four characters jump on board making wine on the last 12 months we’re giving to say this because as much as you guys can do it obviously with a lot of weight with your brand. You need a couple of people, Joe Heights needed Mondavi and there’s other people. You need six or seven guys—
Male: 1215 for mass.
Gary Vaynerchuck: Yeah, you get six or seven people, you know ‘cause it can’t be out of your word, you can’t be at 1228 every night you know signing models even though it seems you are.
[Laughing]
Meynard: We are, I know—
Gary Vaynerchuck: Hopefully it’s Arizona, if you live in Arizona I think you find these guys.
Male: Yeah, December we’re doing through more 1239 on this, yeah.
Meynard: I think it general just across you know the entire country there’s all these more local first movements going on agriculture sustainable businesses which is in general and I think education is fine is that one of the nice cornerstones for a community to really can survive and can of expand in its own little area that is going to solidify the economy’s, solidify the community are vineyards and wines. For me that’s the goal here, it’s that kind of—borderline’s survivors mentality of like kind of keeping it here working together as a community and building something that’s strong and making it interesting and 1320 in area to have shorter than the 1321. This wine tasting is the same over a year.
Gary Vaynerchuck: Which is probably why you’ve been in a little bit of a half-pregnable with your fruit coming from California right?
Meynard: Yeah.
Gary Vaynerchuck: Do you feel like this like I could sense it as far as—
Meynard: And the way I was 1332 as we I mean we could really maybe impressed she was some of the California stuff but its California stuff.
Gary Vaynerchuck: Yeah.
Meynard: It’s easy.
Gary Vaynerchuck: Listen, you know you guys know me well enough and it feels something you’re right. I mean when I’m with the wine makers I’ve been doing a lot of shows lately with them it’s always harder for me to score the wines for them. It’s an uncomfortable feeling and do they get a point or two higher, probably. But that being said, you know I’m not going to go ballistic if I don’t feel it that the fundamental fact is there is a little bit of a value play here. You’ve been noticing with the 1402 California stuff now for specifically last week and all that stuff was what? 60, 75 you’re getting interesting wine. So now on the—right we talked about going over 50-year but I’m telling you right now on the page fix up that is I mean the Malvasia if you can get it, if the mailing would allow it to ship it to you or you’re lost in Arizona, you’ll end up here somehow. I highly recommend you pick up a couple of bottles because it is a very intriguing food from the white wine and clearly the 1431 here because don’t forget they’ve just started. Anything else you want to add to that. What are your tipping points? I think it’s interesting for them what have been the three or four biggest things that have happened that have given you guys attention whether it’s your time, it enthusiast your times like what you expected or what’s your journal—
Male: Actually aside from—looking at the potential of our industry, one of the biggest things actually is a couple of years ago was, our wine was changed. Now we can shift 1456
Gary Vaynerchuck: That’s the biggest thing.
Male: Yeah, I mean and that’s the trend of—
Gary Vaynerchuck: I have to tell someone like dude!
Male: Well his wife is a distributor. So I don’t know if you know—
Gary Vaynerchuck: That’s right! And that’s your boss right?
Male: Yeah. So you know Rob 1508 was the president of our wine association great guy and I personally—
Gary Vaynerchuck: Step up?
Male: Yeah, stepped up. He liked you know—he spent a lot of time with the capital and—
Gary Vaynerchuck: Meaning having envelopes?
Male: Oh man, I chased mine, it was a lot of—I didn’t know I follow 1521 stage centers into the bathroom 1523
Gary Vaynerchuck: Oh the Daily Ex knows it, I mean it’s a mess.
Male: No, we had to do it. And so we have pretty good wine 1528 now not green I think that’s at the stage and now people can come in and say oh, I can actually go and make a living doing this in Arizona.
Gary Vaynerchuck: Sure. And that’s got to bring more people to come into the table. No question about that.
Male: Yeah, it was huge.
Gary Vaynerchuck: Any other thing you want to part with?
Meynard: If you’re interested on the caduceus wine at American venue wines, caduceus.org as—
Male: Stronghold.com
Gary Vaynerchuck: We will link up everything. I’ll get all the emails, we will link—Matt I know you’re not here, again we have to link up all these links. We’ll get you down in a minute.
Male: So we got Tim here, there you go man, get over here!
Gary Vaynerchuck: High five man!
Male: And he’s actually partly was responsible for wire over here and he sends us emails to the 1606 so you know I definitely want to recognize him. His been bossing us and—
Tim: Nice to meet you.
Gary Vaynerchuck: What’s—I think that’s something good.
Tim: I love your show!
[Laughing]
Gary Vaynerchuck: How long have you—
Tim: I love what you’re doing. Probably about a year ago dude. I just love what you’re doing here.
Tim: Thanks bud.
Gary Vaynerchuck: And so what about what you’re doing here? What are your role forget about the bosses here, what do you think is going to happen here? What do you feel like what’s going to be like the tipping point, is going to be Malvasia, it’s going to be Tempranillo—
Tim: Oh, I think it’s going to be a lot of
Gary Vaynerchuck: It’s going to be Meynard, rock starring it out—
Tim: I think it’s a combination of all of these. I know there’s so much of attention here—
Gary Vaynerchuck: From the tale wall what do you feel like it has the real signature play?
Tim: Definitely Malvasia I think.
Gary Vaynerchuck: That’s really exciting to me.
Tim: Yeah, I mean to clearly taste it.
Gary Vaynerchuck: Yeah, that was killing me.
Tim: And that’s getting—this year is better I mean it’s just it’s 1650
Gary Vaynerchuck: It’s awesome.
Tim: Yeah, the way it is but it hit [Laughs]
Gary Vaynerchuck: Obviously it is planted in Jerome as well.
Tim: Very nice. So—
Gary Vaynerchuck: So Tempranillo is one.
Gary Vaynerchuck: So Tempranillo, Cab and Malvasia—
Meynard: More and more 1703
Gary Vaynerchuck: That will move bad huh!
Meynard: Yeah.
Gary Vaynerchuck: Quite a couple that 1706 a lot of the—
Tim: Now you get some more wine for the 1708 down the street.
Gary Vaynerchuck: Very close, so you guys let’s get 1712 you got to figure it out.
Meynard: I think it’s a frontier. Yeah.
Gary Vaynerchuck: All right guys you have to ask the question today so that if they ask any question, it does not need to be wine oriented but the guests asks the questions today fire away ask the vayniacs anything you like. Don’t look at me look at them. Yeah, get started?
Meynard: You’ve got question?
Gary Vaynerchuck: Yes.
Meynard: You go.
Gary Vaynerchuck: No—
Meynard: What kind of question.
Gary Vaynerchuck: Ask them what they think about the wines, what they think about the way you look these days, your wines, why are they here? What’s your mother’s name, just rock it out!
Meynard: What’s the air speed velocity when I 1740 this wall [Laughs]?
Gary Vaynerchuck: You with a little bit of me—
Meynard: You’ll be the same then.
Gary Vaynerchuck: And this tremendous team in Arizona I’m telling you we’re changing the wine world.
