The dish is merely acting as a reflector (and not a concentrated one either), helping the ant. catch a 'little' more signal. You would get better results with an aluminum can ant. If you're gonna do this project, use a disposable pie pan... it's cheaper.

Now if you solder a 8" dia. Copper plate to the end of that wire and place it where the old lbn was in the focal point of the dish, you might get some better results! Some students did it with 2 old 18" dishes pointed at each other to get the link on a line of sight and it worked at 53 miles apart! at 10mbs with no added power!

NOPE. Cut off LNB from bracket, put antenna there. This is 100% bogus--all these small TV dishes are offset fed, not center fed. IF this works at all as shown, it's just plain old dumb luck.
