This video bartending lesson is brought to you by American Bartender School where in just one or two weeks, you can be fully trained and ready to work as a professional bartender.
The drink I want to show you now is called an Alabama Slammer. If you like to taste of orange juice, it has got a lot of great flavors in it. Now, what I am going to use is that I am going to use my Boston shaker, which consist of two parts. A mellow mixing cup and a glass mixing cup. And I am going to put a little bit of ice in our Boston Shaker and our recipe calls for a half ounce of Southern comfort.
Southern comfort is a sweet whiskey taste liqueur and it is flavored with peaches. It is a secret recipe so I cannot tell you exactly what goes into it. So we got a half ounce of our Southern comfort. We have a half ounce of our Amaretto liqueur, this happens to be Amaretto de Sorono which comes from Italy but there are other distillers that make Amarillo flavor that is just an almond flavored liqueur and we are going to use a half ounce.
Our next recipe ingredient calls for Sloe gin. Sloe gin is a sweet and liqueur and it is made from Sloe Berries. It is red in color. Now even though it has the word gin in it, it really does not taste anything like gin and I am going to put a half ounce in here.
Now I know that so many people out there who are watching this recipe in the internet say, “Well, I saw the recipe and it calls for one ounce of Sloe Gin and two ounce of this and three ounce of this liqueur.” And the reason why we do not show how to make drinks with those outrageous proportions is because if you drink one of those drinks, you would be drunk in about 10 minutes and if you went out and drove a ca here in the United States, you will be arrested and put in jail.
So all of our drinks have a moderate amount of liqueur in so that they taste good and they still have a little bit of effect on you. The last ingredient that we are going to put in our drink is just orange juice. We are going to put two ounces of our orange juice in there. And then what I am going to do is I am going to shake this drink and the reason why I am going to shake this drink and set a pour in all the ingredients in this glass is whenever you are making a cocktail and you are using a fruit juice with liqueurs you want to stir it up. You want to mix it up, you want to get everything oops, let us hold it down, we got to hold this tightly.
So the drink will have a consistent flavor all the way through and then I am going to strain it without the ice. Look at that, all right, so this is our Alabama Slammer. So, if you like orange juice it is a great tasty drink. So, enjoy! It has got a lot of interesting flavors in it, Alabama Slammer.
