1.) Avoid making the volcano with a hole in the middle while centering. That only creates a soft spot in the center. 2.) Use a closed fist to help control your hand. Your centering took way too long because you were moving it all over the place. 3.) Use softer clay. Don't break your back. 4.) Try a squater centering form. A tall one means you have to open up more clay.
