Well this is absolutely helpless. Not absolutely but come on! If you are stranded in the jungle and have no matches or lighter, you are also going to be without steel wool and probably without batteries. Geez guys.

even if i did have anliminum wool and a battery on me at the time, i would only be able to light it once or twice and then im stuffed.

i think everyone commenting has figured out that it will be a lot easier to carry a lighter or match around than a bunch of aliminum wool and a battery. im not impressed, and im only 14! when you come up with an idea for lighting a fire in the wilderness without man made resources then will i be impressed!

What you'll need: ANY type of battery Steel Wool Steps Rub the battery terminals on the steel wool and blow on it. Use this to light the tinder, and there you have it! Tips: The finer the steel wool the better. Most batteries will work but 9 volt batteries are easiest. This works by sending a current through the tiny steel wires the tiny steel wires, which in turn get super heated. This is similar to how the wires in light bulbs and toasters operate.

Rub the battery terminals on the steel wool and blow on it. Use this light the tinder and there you have it.
