How to make fire without matches or a lighter

the problem with this is i have a much better chance to have a lighter than steel wool and a battery.

Well, I don't know if when I'm out in the middle of nowhere I'll have steel wool and batteries in abundance and have no matches in my car....

i do this all the time to get fires goin in my backyard i use a drill batterie its pretty fun:D lol

OK I've seen this trick a lot, but what is the chance you'll have steel wool, and a battery, and not a lighter, match, or another way to make fire? Just a gimmic, sorry.
