You may have a directory where you wish to allow restricted access to authorized users only. Let's see how to set that up now. Select the folder (directory) that you wish to password protect. Create a Resource Name. This will be the title in the Popup window that prompts your user to login.

Great! Now let's go back and create a user. Create a user and password. The password should be 6-8 alpha-numeric characters and should not include the username.

A username and password have been successfully created. Now in order to access the protected directory, a user must first login. It is just as easy to remove password protection.

You are now able to password protect a directory in cPanel.
