I am going to show you how to do Tom and the Heartbreakers’ “American Girl” with my limited abilities.
You start off on the D chord. We will also be using E7, G, A, B-minor—if you do not know how to use that, you can miss it out. It is quite hard for people who are just learning—also, E minor. You start from D.
The instrument pattern is this. You use an up and right open to pass, you do this on each chord. (Demonstration) That is the first pattern. (Demonstration) The second pattern is (Demonstration). That is the full strum for each chord. (Demonstration)
If you do not know how to do those chords, look it up on the internet and it will show you where you put your fingers, and you have nothing to worry about.
I am going to do a little bit of singing and I will go through the chords. I will let you see the chord changes as I am going along. My singing is pretty appalling, so I apologize for that. Here we go.
(Music playing)
You can up this a little extra bit, which is the actual song. (Demonstration) So, press this and those (Demonstration). These are the strings that you pick. (Demonstration) That is pretty much it.
