[Demonstration]
Hi, welcome to Lessonwithtroy.com. In today’s lesson we’re going to learn the classic gospel tune “How Great thou Art” and we’re in the key of G and open G tuning in which is G, B, D, G, B, D, tuning. And this one incorporates the whole lot of arpeggios. [Demonstration] You kind of spice up the melody a little bit. Well, I'm going to show you the close up left hand of each phrase and close up to the right hand. Let's go and get started the first phrase.
Okay, I'm going to play the first phrase for you slow like a couple of times so you can get it on your head.
[Demonstration]
This is the basically measures one and two and the first note have measure three in your tab. If you have tabular and print it out so don’t stand in front of you it will help you out. I just go measure by measure and sure I tell you what measure number we’re on. Once again sounds like this.
[Demonstration]
So there's a lot more going on with the right hand but I just want to show you what I'm doing the left hand real quick. I'm just starting of playing on a lot of open string here. The first string open going back and forth between the first string and your fourth string for that first measure. [Demonstration] And you do that three times. First string to your fourth string. [Demonstration] And the slide comes by doing the triple stop on, and then open second string you're going to slide from two to four on your third string. [Demonstration] You're going to be that open sixth string too. [Demonstration] And we’re going to do this arpeggio. [Demonstration]
Now, after I show that with the right hand that make more sense. Once again—
[Demonstration]
Okay, let me show you the right hand for that.
Okay, I'm going to play the right hand a few times and you can see what I'm doing. [Demonstration] So that first measure [Demonstration], just alternating there between your first to fourth string thumb or the middle of the thumb. [Demonstration] And then the tab too, I have the finger in through now underneath. So, I'm going to read the notes, so you can tell what I'm doing. [Demonstration] Okay, and the second measure you do that double stop there with your thumb on your sixth string, the middle on your second and index on your third. [Demonstration] Okay, and then you’re going to do this arpeggio. We’re going to be doing a lot of arpeggios in the song t really just spice it up. [Demonstration] Let me show you slowly what I did. [Demonstration] I slit up right there two to four and then bring my thumb up to start of that arpeggio. [Demonstration] There's thumb, index, middle, middle and bring back down, middle, index, thumb, thumb. [Demonstration]
So that pattern there is what we’re going to be doing quite a bit with your thumb, with blind multiple strings and also your middle finger would jump up and do more multiple strings. [Demonstration] So if you have trouble with that arpeggio, just really focusing on that for a while to really build up your right hand dexterity. [Demonstration] Okay, let's go ahead and learn the second phrase.
