Hi, I'm Ian Walsh, welcome to OnlineLessonVideos.com. We’re going to learn the traditional set dance Saint Patrick’s Day in the key of G. So let's get started.
[Demonstration]
Okay, so the first thing we’re going to do here is play an open D and slur our bow up to the G. So we’ll have two notes here slurred play in one bow. I generally like to start with the down bow, this feels the most natural to me. So we start with –
[Demonstration]
Okay? In a minute, we’ll add in an open G here to give us a kind of heavier double stop sound.
[Demonstration]
Okay? But for now, we’re just going to play the two notes with one bow, I’ll count it as one, two.
[Demonstration]
Okay. From there, we’re going to use—you may have notice I was using my fourth finger and not the open strings. If you notice that and you want to use the open strings as I use my fourth finger here, that’s fine, go right ahead. I'm going to play with my fourth finger here, watch this notes.
[Demonstration]
Okay. So that’s D, G, A, G, G.
[Demonstration]
Now you can’t see my bow but those are four bow movements total.
[Demonstration]
Okay, that’s enough of that for now, let's move over to the A string here. We’re not going to play an open A, we’re going to start on the B and we’re going to walk up to the D.
[Demonstration]
Okay. Once you have that intonation down, we can continue.
[Demonstration]
Okay. We added on a lot there so let just take a look on what we had in. So far, we had the B, C, D.
[Demonstration]
And then we’re going to use our fourth finger again.
[Demonstration]
Okay. And that should finish out that first section. Let me play it for you in its entirety.
[Demonstration]
Okay. So that’s one way of playing that fourth section without using any open strings. Let's try it again.
[Demonstration]
Okay. After you play this a few times and you get a hang of it, we can move on to the next piece.
