How to Practice
Hello and Welcome! My name is Lynden Blades and it is my honor to be your once on one juggling instructor. This is a really short video lesson and I just want to talk about practice and what is the best method to go about how to practice. Now the thing is the way using this for juggling, but in reality we can use these techniques I am teaching you now for absolutely anything at all. Anything you are trying to learn.
And with juggling or with anything you are trying to learn, the secrets of practice is doing little and often. What is that mean? So what I mean is what it mean is if you are doing five minutes a day, everyday or maybe a couple times of day or just five minutes a day, that is actually better over the course of a week or a couple of months, then not practicing at all. You feel really guilty about it, trying to catch up by the weekend by doing like two hour block, you do not learn as well when you get information in big lumps. Where you learn really, really well is when you get small amounts of information on a regular basis.
So it is a practicing juggling a little bit everyday is a really fantastic technique and this will apply to anything in it just like happens and also softness and I play guitar as well and it is the same thing. If you practice a little and often just a little bit here and a little bit there, several time a week. It is the regularity that really helps your system to learn something really, really thoroughly.
And then also, you do not end up having negative feelings that can all manage should I practice my juggling. I know as good as I should have been. I should have done this. I should have done that because then if you have that kind of attitude when you do juggling, you thinking, you could have a negative attitude. Where is if you pick it up all the time, it is not a big deal. You just pick it up. You do a little bit of juggling and put it down and that is great, you move on. And so you always got this light hearted kind of friendly humorous approach to whatever is that you are doing and it is much that way.
The other thing that I want to share with you is the fact that the information that you take on today may not come through your system today. So what I am saying is if you are practicing juggling today and you are trying to get this new trick in and you keep trying and keep trying, it is just think “Man I am looking anywhere.” Now believe me I have been there enough times myself. The thing is that practice that you do today may not always pay off today. Sometimes you need to sleep on it and there is really good reason for this. It is because your brain is actually separated into two halves. You have got the left side and the right side. One side, you can work logical and the other side is well creative and artistic.
Between them, you have a bundle of nerves and when you learn something new tens to go new logical side of your brain. But to get through that bundle of nerves so goes over to the other side if you creative side, it often takes quite a bit of time and a repeated message again, and again, and again, and again before it becomes what we think of the second nature.
Now you know this because the first time you try to ride a bike, maybe you did not get straight of trial, and I hope that you did. But, most people it does take quite a few attempts and then you practice and you practice and you do not get it and then the next day, you just comes in, “Let me get to the bike and it is there.” You just ride off and think back, “How did that happen? I did not do any practice last time I try does patterns.” The reason is you got the spangle of nerves, I think it is called corpus callosum and it just take time for that information to get through. The point is the practice that you do today does not always pay off today, but it will pay off maybe tomorrow or maybe in the few days time. So do not give up hope and little than often is the way to practice.
This is my so called practicing techniques. I really hope that has been useful for you. My name is Lynden Blasé.
