Wrist rehabilitation really includes getting back all the range of motion and taking the wrist through all of its motions and being able to go from side to side, up and down and in a circular motion and our strengthening program would include doing exercises to work on all of those. If you want to do those that lift the hand up against resistance, twelve to fifteen, thirty, forty, fifty repetitions or however many until muscle failure, trying to hand over, they are going to be stronger in this position. Again, we want to work till muscle failure. Also want to them have them work from side to side in this position.
The other thing we really want to worry about, especially fingers, are making sure that all the tendons are intact and do their job. So we want to make sure that they can extend their fingers all the way and they can flex their fingers all the way and if they are complaining of the inability to flex or extend their fingers, that's something that should be taken care of immediately. We want to get that looked at as soon as we possibly can and don't want to put that person back into play.
Unless they have an obvious fracture, they are hard to tell, but if they complain of pain in the shaft of the bones, we want to get that looked at as soon as we can as well. For finger strengthening, we can do gripping exercises, making fists against resistance, having them extend against resistance, and that will take care of most of the injuries to the hand, wrist.
