Chris: The one of the keys to developing a great practice for youth is to make it fun and to include prizes, games and as many things that keep the kids interested and make it seem like they are not even learning, but they are just going out and having some fun as part of the skills. Diane is going to explain a great physical education game that we just incorporated right in Lacrosse called Messy Backyard. So go ahead.
Diane: And when we play Messy Backyard, it's basically a simple game where you want to get the balls out off of your side or your backyard. So we set up a line, a barrier. This time we use jump ropes and cones. And the three girls over here in one backyard, this is one backyard and this is another backyard. They each have six balls in their backyard. They want to clean up their backyard. So they are going to clean it up by scooping their balls, go ahead Kally and scoop, and then shes going to dump it on their side.
Well, Sorana what would you do if something came into your backyard? She is going to scoop it and get it right back.
Now what we really recommend in this game is that they are able to scoop quickly. So we go over before they play the game. All the things that we have taught them about scooping, getting low, getting their hand at the top of the stick, so that they are hopefully using skills, we have spent so much time on. So that's what -- this is really good for scooping.
In this game, what we don't want to ever do with the youth is having them throw it across the line. It's always the scoop and a gentle pass to the other side. We usually have a time limit of 30 seconds because you could time that and then when the time is up, we will see who has the most balls in their backyard, okay. Is everybody ready? And go.
Speaker: Make it a little short.
Diane: That's what he is thinking, maybe ten seconds, yeah. Yeah, we will do it like ten seconds here. Good job girls! Don't let him go too far. Oh! Good. Good, good. Little, little, little, little passes. Three, two, one.
