Speaker: Hi and welcome to a fishing knot instructions video from Videofishingknots.com. In this video, I will show you how to tie a Bimini Twist. A lot of people think that it's very difficult but actually its not that hard and once you get it, you can tie it in less than 60 seconds, but here is how it's done.
You start out by forming a big loop and then, you need to leave a generous tag end for this knot. So, just do a big loop and down here by my right hand, I am just holding the tag end and the standing part and my left hand is inside the loop and the next step is to twist the loop at least 20 times and you do so by circling your hand like this, doing circular movements. I guess that was around five twists and you need to do at least 20. So I will just do 15 more. I think 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19 and 20 wraps.
So, after the first step, you will end up with a loop end here by your left hand and then there is long twisted part of the loop. The next step, when trying the Bimini twist, is to place the loop over your knee or over your foot but just so that you can see it better, I am using a cup here at the table that I have suspended. So I am just placing the loop over the cup but normally you would use your knee or your foot that is what most anglers do when you are out there fishing and then we are ready for the magic part anyway, in my opinion, for this knot and that is that you take the tag end and you pull it and at the same time, you pull or press the standing part, so that you make the spiral more compact and when you get to a point where you can feel that it can't get more compact. that's it is.
You just let go of the standing part and or you that to go you place it in your mouth, so you can keep it suspended and then you hold the tag end in a 90% angle from the spiral and here comes the magic part and that is when you take your hand and you place it inside the loop and then you pull towards yourself, like this and that will cause the tag end to wrap around the spiral. Just watch this, you can do it real fast or you could slow, doesn't really matter but the tag end is wrapping around the spiral, just like that.
If you let go the Bimini twist now, it will just slide up if you don't keep it suspended as you hold on to it. So the next type is just to secure it and you do so by taking the tag end and tying a half hitch around one of the legs. You just put the tag end through the loop and on the one of the legs and make it come back through the loop that you just created. Just an ordinary half hitch, just like that and you pull it tight and when you have done that, you can actually let go and move on to the next step. To secure the Bimini twist even further, you tie another half hitch but this time you tie around both legs in the loop.
So you take the tag end and you put it over the two legs in the loop and you align them and hold on to the cross over like that, then you take the tag end and you wrap it, oops, and you wrap it around the two legs and the loop four times. So that was one, two and three and four times like that and now you can see that down here to secure the tag end one last time, you can open up the loop down here and then you put the tag end through that little gap, just like that and now all you need to do is to tie this or pull this half hitch tight, oops, see if that will work, just like that and when you pull this tight, you will end up with a nice Bimini Twist and now if you adjust the knot a little bit out here and you trim the tag end, you will end up with a very beautiful and very strong fishing knot.
