Today we are going to transplant raspberries. I brought some raspberry transplants from FedCo. Actually they have division called, I forgot what it is called Super Fedco. Anyway, this is there is subsidiary of Fedco that sells plants and these what look like pods are actually bags of raspberry transplants. The raspberries do not like to be transplanted and so we have to be really careful about it.
We are going to put a bunch of manure in one of our raise beds, dig some trenchers drop these guys in and show you the special trick we learned from FedCo about how to help them survive the transplant process. Right? Here we go.
This what I like about the raise bed, if you have a diminished capacity in your spine like I do, you can just sit on the edge like this and you can do a pretty good job of turning the soil over and you are not herniating L5-S1. So we have got manure mixed in and turned all nicely.
Now, what we are going to do is we are going to cut these bands off. Or my knife is and we are going to put them in a bucket that is called Agri-gel, it is also called Terra-Sorb in it as well. These are those crystals that absorb a bunch of water and puff up really giant. So you do not need too much of this, I took two tablespoons. Looks like ice or yes, crystalline salmon eggs or something. But what is going to happen is, is we are going to dunk this in the water with all the Agri-gel and the Agri-gel will cling to the roots. It so when we transplant, the roots will have some water being fed to it during the transplant process.
Which is very important for raspberries, the Agri-gel stuff is great just for whenever you are transplanting plants. You just can dust and like a couple teaspoonful in the hole. Put your plant in there and put the soil in when you water it, those gels swell up and then they feed the water back to the plant over a week or so. So you do not have to water it everyday. It is also a really good for window boxes. Weekenders. But I am going to take this whole bunch and dunk them in here. When you pull this back out again, you see how all the gel is clinging to the roots like that. That is great.
So you see when you, we just tease one of these out. These are really nice robust plants we have here. I am dunking them in that gel here and you get the roots all covered and you drop them in and you lay out the roots. And then when I am doing is I am taking some of the gel, taking some of the stuff and just kind of dropping it on the roots in the trench.
Fish emulsion is really good to help produce transplant shocks. So after we are done here, I will water them with the watering bucket with a mixture of water and fish emulsion and that will do a really good job. Okay so, that is how you transplant raspberries. We will keep you updated as to how they are doing, we will do some shots of them later.
So that is all about raspberries. Tell your friends about the show; please visit www.gardernfork.tv, if you have any questions, send us an email and thanks for watching. Bye.
