Well, I have good ideas now and then but very rarely do those ideas translate into actions. If you are watching this video, I have to believe, you are a young person and that is part of the problem. Another part of the problem is you have not been in the job long enough to have earned and opinion in their minds. Also ask yourself, do you have ideas like this all the time? Or is this the rare moment of insight.
If it is a rare moment and it is a brilliant idea there are things you can do. If it is just another one of many ideas you have and not acted upon then we will probably end up in the decent idea graveyard with your others. Some of us are idea generators but we do not go to the next step to see if the idea has legs. I am going to assume you have come up with a profound idea. The idea must impact in one or more of three areas of your company.
It has to either increase revenues, decreased cost and or increase efficiencies meaning productivity at no increase to cost or to the degree that additional cost are recouped. Now that is a total order, does your idea do any or all of these if it passes this tests you can move on to the next square. You have to spell out your idea and think through all the cost and steps necessary to do with well.
While you are doing this, think of all the changes have to take place to execute it well. Also considered the objections others will have, remember a hard number is important also considered what pain or promise this idea has for your boss. If this idea will help your boss or make him look good all the better. What if the key responsibility is to make your boss look good?
Does your idea help your boss directly or indirectly or indirectly? There has to be with him, with him is what is in it for me for your boss to get excited about your project your idea and then to support it. Once we get pass that hurdle you now have to see if you can be part of the pitch. Your goal once again is not just to get your idea out there but to make your boss look good as well.
If you are going to get to pitch this up stairs make you boss part of the process and credit him for making it happen and for having faith on you. So, as you can see there is a great deal involve in getting an organization to listen to your ideas but if it is a smart company and if it is a good idea you can find an audience. One role here is to be persistence if it does not work the first time through find out what you need to do differently to have it considered again.
It is not always the best and brightest that make it sometime it takes persistence and a thick skin. In addition to your ideas do you have those traits as well? I believe you may best of luck.
