Hi! This is Ben Fitts with MarketingICE.com and in this video I am going to show you how simple it is to upgrade your Word Press Blog.
Now, the thing that is most important when you upgrading is when your arm the instructions for word press. Number one they are going to tell you back up your database.
Now, I made a useful tool for us it is included in our software as if you go to your work press blog and click on the plug-ins at the bottom you should see word press data back up, and you want to make sue that is activated.
So, I make sure that is activated and then I go to manage and here in manage all the way around we are going to click on where is access back-up
Now you can backup these core table on the left it automatically, going to be back up. The ones that the right will added by very software programs I can that, I can back those before if I want to as I do not want to like if I am in a hurry or something. I would not check those. If I wanted to check them and back them up like what I say, I just wanted to save my full on information or click those, and then down here , I would say I want to save it to my server or I want to downloaded to my computer I want to email the back up to that address. I am going to download it to my computer.
I will going to click backup and then it is going to start the back up process and you can see the progress bar there sticking across and fortunately I only got hundred or self post on this blog so backs–up pretty quickly. If you have thousand post on your blog you might take a little while longer to do this
And when this is done it is now going to ask me if I want to save the file to my computer and I just click save file and it is going to save it. And that is all I have to do to back it up. Now for go back to our instructions step number two is deactivate all of my plug-ins and the reasons for that it is because between versions some plug-ins may or may not work. Especially if you are jumping quite as you upgrades in a while somebody of your plug-ins may not work.
So, in order to deactivate them you come to the plug –ins screen here and you go to the right hand side and you deactivate them. What you are going to want to do is you want to write them down so that you know which one is to reactivate if you like me and even start some that your not currently running. So I go through here and just like the start deactivating all of my plug-ins . Okay. In just a second I will comeback after I deactivated everything.
Okay. So ,now that deactivated all of my plug-ins, I may look back at the WordPress instructions and step three is overwrite the files. So you down load the files to your computer, you unzipped it and then you uploaded and I will just use the htp, and I am upgrading home business blogs.
So, I browse to where the WordPress is and were press 205 that is the version I am going to do and I highlight all these files and now I upload them. That is not going to over-write in the images or teams in the internet like that. So it is not going to overwrite those and it is not going to over write the plug-ins either.
So we are going to start this upload that is not going to a few second for the upload so I am going to have put you guys on flushy you do not have to watch all the file uploading.
Okay, now my load is finish and what I am going to do is I am going to go back to my blog here and I am going to go and I am going to run the file upgrade.htp. It is going to be in my WP admin folder just like normal. If you look at the WordPress instruction here the next step is to run the script and follow the instructions that has display so I am going to click upgrades from any previous version. Just click this. Hey, let all this is like great. It is all I had to do, click that one length because is saves all the configuration information it does not over right that when you upgrade.
So, If could click this length it should take me right back to my home page, that is funny to add cannot straight this things up. IT takes me right back to my homepage and I can go in here and if you scroll all the way down to the bottom you are going to see that the version in formation that your at now and you can see whether or not the upgrade work. And also remember to go into your plug-ins and reactivate all of your plug-ins and that is all you have to do guys. Just takes a few minutes to upgrade. Take care.
