Hey, what’s up Robert here with another video tutorial from RobertsProductions.net. I was about to say Photoshop tutorial, but this time we’re working with Gimp. Now Gimp is a free photo editing software that is similar very similar to Photoshop. Now the difference is it’s free and it’s downloadable and it works.
So today, I’m just going to be showing you the basics, and I’ll be doing Gimp tutorials from time to time. Okay, so the first thing we want to do is we want to open up Gimp so in case you haven’t notice all you have to do is double click. I mean, if you don’t know how to double click then I don’t know, so let’s open up Gimp. This is Gimp 2.6, the latest version you can download it from Gimp.org. The link is in the description to the right so go over that to the right more info, Gimp.org.
So I’m going to show a few features of Gimp like the User Interface, and as you can see this little thing right here, this is called the Main Window, this is the window where you can add all the effects and mess around with all of your photos and add options, image, adjustments and all those things, and you can see by this little submenu here it says, drop image files here to open them, so you just drag and drop your image files.
So somehow I don’t know where this river one image came here and I’m going to drag it into there to work with Gimp. So that’s a nice photo of a river. I should have left that sharpie open because I’m feeling a little happy, so we got a main window. This is our main window and as you can see now in Gimp if you right click you can choose all yor options from here, file, new, creates and so on edits, select, view image, and this is just complete with all your menu options that you could use when working with your images.
And then over here to the left we have our Tool box , this has all of our tools that we need for editing your images or adding stuff to our images or just playing around with images. We got a nice Rectangle Select Tool. We got our Laser Tool like we have in Photoshop and this is called the Pre-select tool keep that in mind. The magic wand tool or what is it called Pussy Select Tool, how sweet of them. What is this? Select by colored tool, nice Let’s see if there’s any other text tool. Let’s see what’s called Text Tool alright, it is called Text Tool, Eraser Tool, Paint Brush Tool. Pencil Tool. This is called the Paint Bucket Tool in Photoshop. This is called the Bucket Filter nice. I like these names pretty interesting, and so I’ll stop boring you with the different tools and when you select the tool as you can see down here different options come up for those tools where you can modify and change certain things depending on what you want to do. So that’s pretty much sums up Tool Box and it’s a nice tool box. You don’t even have to open it, how those tool boxes like the tool box in our shade. You’ve got to open it up and use a key and it’s got little chores. This is a nice one I’ll open for you, don’t laid out.
And what else do we have? To the right, what is this called this fancy little thing? I know it’s called the utilities window nice. This window is more often overlooked in the Gimp. This is called Bug Gimp but I’d like to call it Gimp. It’s better to be called Gimp. It wants to be called Gimp. Bug gimp I don’t know, but where did you get that photo? In the Gimp it’s like the damp. Okay, so that’s a nice story by the way, the dump have you ever heard of it? Yeah, check it out. It’s online Google dump, it’s nice.
So, Utilities Window, this is nice. What do we have here? This is where you deal with layers, channels, paths and etcetera. You can add or remove as many tabs from the window as you like. So let’s see do we right click layers, channels, paths under History, look at that layers, channels, path under History. It’s like Photoshop look at that.
We got our six options right here where we can add a new layer that’s nice. Raises the selected layer, load the selected layer, duplicate the selected layer, incur the selected and delete the selected layer, that’s great. I’m happy and over here we have our different brushes dialogue box, so different brushes that we can use that’s a nice brush, look at that, is that a Jalapeno, spicy. Let’s take out brush tool and paint these Jalapenos. Let’s scale it up a little bit, look at that these Jalapenos are these green dull peppers. I think they are green bell peppers, but when they are little they are like Jalapenos they are like tiny little Jalapenos. What is this a sun? Look at that it’s like little spark lit, that’s nice.
What is this? Evil shadows, this scratches Freddie Krueger, growl. Look they are different every time, it’s nice, sweet. Look ex smart spot, that’s great. And we also have patterns, patterns. How can we add these patterns? Let’s figure it out. Let’s figure Gimp out. I’ve been using —Wow! that’s the gradient tool. We don’t want to use gradient tool under blend okay. What is it called? The blend tool nice see in Photoshop it’s called the gradient tool. I’m not making fun of anything I’m just helping you out with Gimp, the User Interface and hopefully that you get a good understanding. Look at that it’s like the big ware Croatian label stick.
We have to find out a way of putting this, do we click? Can we click and drag it? No, I don’t think so. How do we add our patterns? That will be something I have to figure out, isn’t it? Cancel, hold on, let’s see. It will be something I have to figure out, adding patterns. Look at our different gradients that we can choose from that’s nice, its got a lot of different presets. I want to figure out how to use these patterns, and I forgot to tell you there’s this little arrows, right here can figure this hand and you can figure your tab obviously, add different types of options. There’s another arrow over here by the layers where you can add different layer tabs, layer menu tabs, add tabs channels see all these different tabs that you can add. And right here under the patterns, patterns menu, let’s see. I need help read online; really I guess I have to read online for help. But now about our hit help contents, its got little question mark.
Okay, we’re good and so that’s about it of the user and a freezing Gimp. It still has up here is all over menu options I don’t know if I said that, but we got the filters, and so see if you can watch one of my Photoshop tutorials and follow it in Gimp see if it works, let me know in the comments below. I’d like to know that but I don’t have much time to be working around Gimp.
So that’s about it more Gimp tutorials coming up later on in the future. If I do figure out how to add patterns, I’ll make it tutorial. And if you want some more Gimp tutorials subscribe to this channel, if you like to request Gimp tutorials. You can email me at Robert@Robertsproduction.net at our website you can request tutorials. But I don’t think Gimp is added yet so if you do want to request a tutorial for Gimp you can either send me an email or fill up the form and write in the description that is for Gimp, but in the applications section you can put like Photoshop.
So that’s about it using the Gimp Interface, once again you can get this from Gimp.org link is in the description to the right of this video, and so that’s about all, hope it helped I’m Robert from Robert’s Productions and until next time take care.
