For Mat4.com, this one, it might be a bit long.
This about how to use no “www” and why there should be no www.
Now what I mean by that is for instance, this site here, mat4.com, the domain is http://www.mat4, whereas this one, mat7, does not have the “www” at the start.
It is not actually necessary to have that “www”. It is effectively a sub-domain. Basically, what this means is that you can have back links pointing to both the non-www version of your domain and the www version.
Now that means those back links are actually pointing to what are effectively different domains, and that is how Google looks at it. So your page rank is split between different domains. You are not getting the maximum page rank linkages for your main site.
It is best to decide on whether you want all of your traffic to go to just the www. sub-domain or to have it without. You can choose which.
I tend to prefer it without, and how we do that is to add a bit of codes, the ht access file. Now there is a site that explains all about it. It is called no-www.org and if we scroll down the bottom, it shows the bit of code that you need to put into the ht access file. Obviously, you replace the domain on this url here with your particular domain and url.
Now, I have actually put that code on mat7.com, log tools, ht access, no www code, so you can actually grab that as zip file and have it in a text file, so you can copy and paste it.
You will see here in this code, I have already replaced the code with my domain name and what I need to do to make this particular domain no www is use some FTP software to grab the ht access file.
Now, I have done a video on mat4.com videos that will show you how to use FTP software and where you can get this file of FTP software for free.
You log on to your domain, you go to the public html folder and you download this ht access file to the local directory just by copying it or dragging it, and it will ask you if you have already done it. It will ask you whether you want to overwrite the existing one, so just say okay.
Then you open it up, either in the text editor or in your html editor, whichever is your preference. We take that bit of code that we have got and paste into here. I have already pasted it in here. So paste that in, maybe some other code in your ht access file as well. Do not worry about it, just put this after it and then save that file.
Once you are finished, you need to load it back up. I am just going to pull this while I do that. So I just pull and I reconnect. This is my connection to drop.
To load it back up, grab the file, drag it and drop it back into your public html folder and again, it will ask whether you want to overwrite it. Say yes, and that will then change your site.
Now this can be done with a standard website as well as a blog. It will simply make it into this no www format. Now that means, what is going on in the background, anybody that goes to the www version of my site will automatically be redirected to the no www version. It is a mouthful, is it not? Saying that every time.
That includes all the links into my site, all the pages, everything. It is a permanent redirect. Google will not lose our pages; it will simply redirect them to the no www version.
You will effectively end up with a better ranking for your page because all the page rank, all the linkages will be pointed through to this version. It is very useful to do.
This video will be on Blog Tactics videos along with the other videos. I hope you find it useful. Thanks for watching.
