Derek: Hi there! My name is Derek Meeker and I am a Senior Law School Consultant for Admissions Consultants, a consulting firm for aspiring college, business, medical, graduate and law school applicants. Today, I am going to be answering some questions about the law school admissions process.
Male: Who should I get to write my recommendation?
Derek: The most important thing with the letters of recommendation is that they come from people who know you and know you really well. Admissions committees do not care so much about the credentials of the letter writer, they care more about the content of the letter. So, getting letters from people who are really familiar with your academic work and can give specific examples of your accomplishments, your analytical skills, your writing and research skills, those skills that are most essential for a law school, those are going to be the best letters.
Now, since you are applying for a very rigorous academic program, you should try to get two letters of recommendations from professors. You could also get letters from employers who are really familiar with your work, experience, those can supplement the letters of recommendation from professors if you have been really involved in your community or extra curricular activities, you could also get a letter from someone who is familiar with your work in that area. The best position to be in is to have several letters, at least a couple of academic ones, a professional one, and if possible a community one as well.
