Richard Steven: Hi. I am Dr. Richard Steven; Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs and Director of Residence Life at Shepherd University. And I am going to talk to you about the differences between high school and college. Host: How will college be different from high school? Richard Steven: A couple of major things that will be different between college and high school; one is that many of you will be living on campus; so away from you family. And that will be a transition. You’ll have personal freedoms. You won’t have curfews and you’ll be able to have to make decisions that often were made for you when you were living at home. Another way that’s different is that while you’ll be going classes, it won’t be for 8 hours straight. You might have a class from 9-10 and then you have another class from until 1-2. And so, how are you going to fill that time in between? And thirdly, study habits. Many students felt like they didn’t have to study and they were able to get through high school pretty easily. Don’t rely on that method when you come to college. Start studying early, so that you’re better prepared. So that you can adjust up or down as the semester goes along and you won’t get behind in the studying that you need to do to pass the class.
