How to Buy a New Laptop: Part 2
Do not worry too much about memory right now as it can be cheaply upgraded, that is true. And just make sure that the laptop is upgradeable if you play video games and or do video photo editing. I have got a laptop with a new rated video cards since I do not do any of those activities. Do not really know much about video cards maybe Chris can speak more to that.
I think video card is important especially if you are gamer then you are probably looking for a desktop replacement notebook and this would probably considered a desktop replacement it is not super, super light weight but it is fast as fast as I need it and as far as the memory upgrades concerned.
Okay, I am going to say something really even though I have an affiliate program with Apple, you got to understand you are crazy if you buy your memory through Apple. You may buy your system through apple.com and that is fine but do not buy your memory for your Apple machine or your Mac through apple.com, you are nuts. And just to show you the discrepancies you can buy, okay, for instance in one configuration right now on apple.com you can buy 32 gigabytes of RAM and that adds on $9000.00 versus buying the exact, same RAM. Exact same manufacturer, everything exactly the same on another website for $3000.00, that is a $6000.00 difference, $6000.00 mark up for the same thing. Okay, I cannot argue that.
So, for people who would say Apple is expensive in that case, they are nuts to think anybody is going to do that and you are nuts to do that. Sorry Apple, I told you, I am going to bring it down to the realm of reality that is just my recommendation. Anyway, so see I am not a total funboy, I had to say that.
Features, does a laptop have a built in memory card reader for your type of digital camera, does it have a built in webcam? A built in microphone, USB ports are plenty, how loud do the speakers gets?, one of the most important features I was looking for is battery life. Does the computer comes with a four cell, six cell, nine cell, 12 cells battery? Does it come with a four six cell battery? Can you buy a better battery at a reasonable price, very good things to consider.
And, usually I have not been with this particular Mac but usually I buy a second battery for just about anything that I consider an electronic device that I plan on using on the road a lot. Laptop, I really have not, for some reason I do not know why I have not got one, I guess I never really had and issue with the battery life of the Mac book despite it is being a beast, it is never been you know that much of an issue for me. You may have had different experiences but certainly these are all important questions to ask. You know if you listen to a lot of music, how good are the speakers on board if you do not listen through headphones. USB ports, does it have all the ports you need or want?
Microphones and webcams most in come with microphones this days, webcams not always. Webcam I would say is a value add, although you might want to consider this two with the webcams that it comes with. Some of them allow you to swivel the webcam this way or that way and that is very nice. That is a good feature to watch for that is kind of—I thought it was kind of weird at first. Oh! My gosh it is great, a great little feature.
And, that is about all he has got, he says he looks for good deals, stay as a smart shopper, you can pay hundreds less and as I mention before I got coupons on my blog at chris.pirillo.com and if you go to tagjag.com it is another site I set up that has got deals on ebayshop.com on where else do we have listed, a few other places actually. Amazon, we got a coupons database that goes to a lot of other websites so even, New Egg we also list new stuff there too. So it is quite geeky, I would say.
