Speaker: Today's cooking tip is how to cut a pineapple. But before we teach you that, we are you going to talk here about buying one. You need to pick a ripe one. The way to do that is to hold in your hand and gently pull one of the center leaves, if it comes out easy, it's ready, it's ripe. Then when you get home you are going to place it in the refrigerator for about 30 minutes and then you're going to turn it upside down. Now the reason we do that is, at the bottom of the pineapple all the sugar settles. So when you turn it upside down all the sugars will run back through the fruit. Okay, now once you've done that, left in the fridge for probably about 30 minutes, okay, you're ready to cut your pineapple.
First thing you want to do is take the green leaves off the top, you can either do that by twisting it right off with your hand, just setting that off to the side. Then we're going to cut each end, about a quarter of an inch to half an inch off the top and off the bottom. Then we're going to shave the sides, just go around in a circle. Give it a good cut to get all the skin off. There we go.
Then just turn it around and what you'll see is a little brown dent that’s here. Just take your peeler, the end of your peeler. We are just going to dig some of those out there and they should pull right out, once we have started, we don't want those especially we are not going to be cutting this in thick slices, there we go.
Now you're ready to cut your pineapple. So you place your pineapple on the side, and you get your knife and you cut it at the thickness that you like, to me the perfect slice is about an inch thick, maybe a little bit thicker. It's all your preference. Just going to cut them all. Try to keep them all of even size. If you prefer you can cut the centers out and it's really simple, just take your pineapple slices and lie them flat on the cutting board. Then grab yourself a paring knife and come around in a circle, there is a line right there in the center. It's pretty simple. You should go all the way through, all around. And if you do it correctly it should, it should pop right out. And that's how you cut a pineapple.
