Hi! I am Dr. Lauren from petside.com and a lot of dogs might need oral medications at home for a variety of reasons. If you have to give your dog medications that your veterinarian prescribed, I am going to show you a couple of easy ways to give it at home.
So if you are to give your pet pills at home, some of them actually come flavored and it will be easy to give because your pet will think it's a treat. So you can just hold it out and give it to them.
If the pill is not flavored, you can try hiding it in some peanut butter or cream cheese which pets usually find appetizing. Here's a pilling from peanut butter, and they usually eat that right up.
If your dog does not like peanut butter or cream cheese, the best way to give them a pill is to put it at the back of their tongue and massage their neck, so that they swallow.
I open the mouth, put the pill at the back of the mouth and just rub his neck gently, and he will swallow the pill, and that's really all you have to do.
Good luck giving pills at home, and if you have any questions feel free to email me at DrLauren@petside.com.
