Folks, I did mention that we are going to do in our second video is show you the definitional why should I say, we need to watch the output on a mixer. Right, okay, the output on a mixer, amazing is it not, okay.
If we look at a conventional mixer, most mixers you will have this little thing here. Which is the output level and you will see 20, 12, 9, whatever, now this is the DB, this is the levels. Going up but even in that knot, plus 2, plus 5 and plus 8 there.
Now, why should you keep it here tapping into the red? I will explain. For most people over about the age of 30 or 40, you will remember the cassette players or when you use to record something kind of a cassette player. What you would notice, are similar sort of thing, you will have little lights flashing and then as soon as they poke into the red, that was about the optimum sound level. When they started peeking to about 8, 5, 6, 7, 8 plus here, then you got what is known as distortion, okay?
Now, all new DJ and bedroom DJ out there, it is fine if it is picking here on the 1st rate. But as soon as you start going up higher and higher, you will not actually, physically getting much louder. What is happening is the fans starts to hear distortion and it starts sounding absolutely crap. Believe me. It is always a good idea to keep it about here. Now then, look at it logically form this point of view. If the amplifier is turned all the way up, okay, and it is kicking here, that is the optimum sound you will get and the amplifier and onto the speakers.
As soon as it starts going up to here, it may get a bit louder but all that will happen, it will start distorting sound terrible. Think about this again more logic. If it is here, alright, poking in the middle of these reds and all of a sudden you start bringing more bass in, it is going to get higher and sound terrible. This is a good idea. If it is down here, okay, and all of a sudden you start bringing more bass in then it is only going to get it to about here.
So, in other words, the fans will be hearing a prop up, audible sound, not the whole load of fuzzy crap. That a lot of DJ when they have about 4 bottles of vodka, starts at playing, disrespect to people drinking vodka because I like it myself occasionally, right, I will show you, right (demo)
Bit of a classic tune, that is a distorted sound now again, it is very difficult to do this because you cannot really hear the sound correctly coming through the speaker (demo)
But it, if all of a sudden I start putting the base up (demo)
It does actually sound distorted. It does, you can hear. The bass is too much and also the vocals is starting to crackle. Now if you imagine that is what is happening on a this little speaker (demo), what is that going to sound like and a night club environment?
(Demo)
So here, a bit more maybe, bit more (demo)
I mean, at the end of the day, if it kicks into the 2nd red, that is fine. But when you start going 3rd and 4th, the worst thing in the world is to see this (demo), I will turn the volume down, it is this (demo)
That is a waste of time ladies and gentlemen, right. Here is a tip for you people so it is always about tips.
And what can we do, cool things, right, listen to this record, right speed, I will put it for you again (demo)
This is a female artist (demo)
Right, what I am going to do now, I am gong to make a sound like a bleak, okay, check it out (demo)
A bit mad but there you go, it takes from the practice but you all you are doing is you are actually turning the record completely off. So there s no power going to the platter itself and then you can spin it with your finger. You can actually spin as fast as you want or slow as you want. So in other words, you can have a techno record and make it sound very slow. You can have a hip-hop record, speed up, drum and bass. But of course other turntables, you can actually speed up to almost 78 so you do not need to do that. But again, it is like playing the record backwards. What looks better, pressing the button or actually turning the record upside down, that is another video, or the other one is when you make surrounds, say, oi, watch this, and then you turn the turntable off, spin it with your finger, it looks much better.
Okay, and stay tuned and hopefully, on one video, we will be discussing about speakers, the good speakers, the bad speakers and how to set them up and how to make them sound a lot better than they should do, speak to you soon, bye.
