Pro hop is nothing more than picking up the back foot and for right handed and player that is going to be Brian’s right foot picking up the back foot getting the knee high in the air and allowing the front side or his left side to come around and giving him the position to thrust.
So, as we break it down with players we do at this way first. Okay, Brian if you would drop your glove to the ground notice that he has got the glove outside his left foots so he does not have to slow himself down. He is also got his head down so it allows the glove to stay down which means we are going to get the ball up in our glove. He is going to take that right leg and he is going to release that and come straight up in the air. It is important to go straight so his momentum goes straight.
If he goes this way his momentum is going here. So, go straight up in the air with his knee and now he is going to drop that foot to the ground he is going to pick up the left foot he is going to drop it to the ground, that squares his shoulders to his throwing target allows him to get on top of the ball and to him a good strong throw. Okay, now from that point when we have gone through the actual of technique and I know what it looks like and how to do it then we back it up and go half speed and we will back it up and go full speed so we will walk through.
Do not anticipate trying this to first hand and making it work, it is a fairly difficult thing for a player to master but it is also something that it could be work on virtually anywhere to get better at it. Do it again, okay, knee up.

Go, knee up. Okay we are going to send Brian back a little bit and allow him to move through thee ball a high speed. We tell our outfielder is this; it should never take you more than two and a half steps to get rid of the ball. So, the goal for Brian once he has learned the technique of how to move his legs the goal for Brian is to feel the ball and get rid of the ball within two and a half steps.
Anything beyond that you take and action step base on those two extra step minimum six feet that you have given him regardless of your arm strength, regardless of any technique that he have under gone, regardless of dropping or bobbling the ball. He gets that extra step just because you took too many.
Okay, we will half speed. We will come right to the line Brian. Okay go through it, break down, knee up and over and you notice that he took approximately two and a half steps in terms of getting rid of the ball. Let us do it again ready, go break down, up and away he goes. We do need to break down into pro hop position the minute he feels the ball. Okay if we do that we are going to have nothing on he is going to get to have a couple steps together himself to get himself into throwing position before you make set good strong throw.
Okay, again break down, up and gone, ready go, and break down one and two in a half there we go good.
Now, we have gone through the technique starting a player down teaching how to be done and we go half speed. Now we can come back and go full speed and when we go full speed long time you notice that we make some mistakes and that is just because what the minds have in operate really fast here and we may not be used to do in that. So, if we have to repeat it everyday for two months then we repeat it every day. If you have to go home and do it in a living room five minutes a day go home and do in a living room it will pay that type of dividend if you know how to do this right.
Okay, Brian will go in a full speed on my command. Ready, go. Down, pro hop, boom. Notice how he gathers himself? He is able get himself under control very rapidly and he is also able to get his strength, go, break, down keep your head down, boom.
