You can actually VLC media player to rip DVD’s, it is actually very easy to do. You just go to file, open disk, and I am going to select DVD, not with menu’s. the first thing I am going to do is see where the actual movie is because sometimes the DVD’s have commercials and other stupid stuff.
So I am going to select title 0, click okay, and then I am going to check if it is the actual whole length movie. If it is commercial or something stupid I click up and try again and I just keep going. I keep increasing the title until I actually find the full length movie. In my case the movie is a title 0. So now I am going to select stream and save and this lets me actually rip the DVD and it is like the settings. I am going to select the file I want to save it to, and I am going to browse, I am going to call it DVDrip.mt4. Now back at the menu again and I am going to select the encapsulation method. I just called the mp4 so I am just going to select mp4. I do not recommend ASF or WIV or RAW. MPEG is fine too.
I am going to select the video codec, I am really used to making videos and DVIC, I think this is the windows movie player codec and these are MPEG codec’s I think I do not know. I am used to DVIC I also like DVIC and the bit rate is what determines the quality and file size if you make it really high bit rate it is going to look a lot better but it is going to be a big file. A thousand 24 is fine in my case, audio codec, I am going to set it to mp3 at a bit rate of 128 again. if you select a higher bit rate it may sound better but the file is going to be bigger.
Most people like 192 for super high qualities, supposedly you cannot hear much difference after that. and that is pretty much all you have to set. If you select play locally you can watch the video while it is ripping. If you uncheck play locally, it will go a lot faster. So I just click okay, I click okay, it will generate the DVDrip.mp4, and it will just start ripping the video, then go to properties and I can see it just keeps increasing and file size. And then you just wait for it to finish. It says 45 seconds out of an hour and 57 min. so it is going to take a while, it still takes a while but it works pretty efficiently and you can set the codec’s and everything you want.
