Today’s beading lesson is about daisy chain stitch. Daisy chain is just an easy stitch that you can get started with. It just makes a tiny little flower. You are going to use beading thread and a flexible needle.
I am using 15 seed beads but you can really do the stitch with any type of bead. So if you want to start out with an even number, I am just picking them up on the needle. Another little tip is always pick seed beads up with the end of the needle instead of picking them up with your fingers and trying to put them on at the needle. It is a lot easier. When you use a bead mat like this, a lot of times the beads will even land whole side up.
So to get your daisy shape, you are just going to place the needle back through the first gold bead here. I am using an even number of beads to create my daisy petals. I am just going to pull the thread and you can see I am getting a circle shape, and that is going to form the flower. You can adjust this as you move along, so I will just pick up another bead. I am going to use the contrasting color for the center, pass it down onto the thread, and you want it nestle down in the center of the circle.
Then you are going to pass the needle through the opposite side of the bead on the other side of the flower. In this case, it is the fourth bead because I have eight all together. You just slide it through. Then you can see I have the daisy shape adjusting your tension as you work along.
Now here, I added some beads for contrast between. You could also just stitch another daisy right next to it and that would create a whole flowered effect, which I did here with this bracelet.
You can see on the samples here, but the bracelets are the interconnected daisies. And again, using a contrasting bead for the center and with the blue bracelet in the middle, I actually used the six millimeter round bead and surrounded that with six seed beads. So you are getting a larger daisy effect there with the petals. This is really, like I said, simple string litter stitch that you can start out with stitching and move on to more intricate stitches after this.
So with this necklace, again it is the daisy and then a few beads between, and just even spacing and using that nice, brown, earth-tone color palette there. And on the sweater, I actually created the daisy and stitched that directly onto the fabric. So the four mm cut side beads and the hematite beads are working together to create that daisy pattern there along the color, and you could do a similar thing at the cuff.
