How to Buy a Blu-Ray DVD Player
Music Playing
Hello, my name is Michae Fallert. I am the general manager of the Sound shop in Colorado Springs and I am here with you today discussing the choices in Blu-Ray players and exactly what they are. So I guess first we should talk about what they are. What they are, is a next generation in DVDs if you will, everybody knows what is the DVD is. Blu-Ray is the next step in that formal if you will. It is a single disk just exact same size and look and feel as a DVD but it hold about anywhere from ten to twenty times more information.
You are going to start seeing movies being film in a higher resolution which takes more room and because of that Blu-Ray was kind of conceived, while originally Blu-Ray and HD was conceived. And there was a little format where and it is pretty well known now HD is dead Blu-Ray is one so people are now rushing out to buy Blu-Ray players.
When I say HD is dead I am making a reference to HD DVD that particular format died off about three months ago. People are now rushing out to buy Blu-Ray players. They do a lot of very good things for you. First and foremost they play Blu-Ray disks which is growing in popularly every week. More and more and more movies are coming out in Blu-Ray and you are going to find that a lot of the new ones are filmed in 1080P which is almost twice the resolution of high definition and you will see that when you played that back specially if you display your TV, your projector. If it is a 1080P display then you are really, really going to see that level of resolution.
Another thing however, that it does is it is also takes a standard definition DVD which is 1080i and it up convert to there, up scales it to 1080i or 1080P depending on what your needs are. And every Blu-Ray that I have got with has a way to go into the menu and make these adjustments. You can tell that “Hey, my TV is 720P. It will up convert just to that level” or you can go “hey I just bought a new TV it is 1080P,” and it is going to take the standard disk and up scale the video to that level. It is not going to look as high resolution as if it were filmed in it but it does a very, very good job.
And then, the choice is in Blu-Ray there is only a few. The biggest difference is you have got your entry level Blu-Ray players that do exactly what I have just said. They played Blu-Ray disk, get that higher resolution. Or they up convert your standard.
Your next step up really has more to do with what they called 3HD which with the biggest, there are two things to that and the biggest aspect of it is uncompressed multi channel audio. So, if you got a very advance theater system and you have got that type of equipment that will handle that, then you want to buy a better Blu-Ray. You want to make sure that it does true HD which uncompressed audio as well as true color which will give you almost three times the color possibility of the standard definition DVD.
And important thing to remember in Blu-Ray is that every Blu-Ray on the market that I know of today puts out 1080P only through your HDMI connection. So if you got older equipment you are looking just to upgrade your DVD, realize that you are only going to get 1080i out of it. You cannot get 1080P out of it without the HDMI connectivity. As far as future implications there are a lot of things going on Blu-Ray. Third generation Blu-Ray is going to have even more storage capacities so you are going to see more and more interactivity on the disk. Then there are also coming out with new live Blu-Rays which are actually hook up to an internet like a network in your home and you be able to stream content of the internet right through your player on to your screen in that 1080P resolution. These are the things that are going to be coming in the future. The next generation Sony Player. It is already been announced for have live Blu-Ray and an connectivity on it. That will be available July of this year.
The only different in close on Blu-Ray really is the quality of the machine and it really has to do more with how it up converts
