How to Choose a Rear Projector TV
Music Playing
Hello, my name is Michael Fallert. I am the general manager of the Sound Shop in Colorado Springs. I am here today to talk to you about Read Projection displays.
I guess the first thing you need to know is they have their place. They are got a bad wrap because years ago when they had CRT Rear Projection they were very dark and well, if you got just a little of the either side the picture got really dark that is not the case as much anymore. Yes, they still have ox that all faxes viewing issues not nearly as per dominos they used to so they have still got an amazing picture and if you have got the space for the depth you get a lot more from you money.
I mean prime example is a 71 inch plasmas $10,000.00 to $12,000.00, a 73 inch DLP $3,500.00 so I mean there is a big difference there. How you answer that for you self is first if you have that depth because they are going to be about 20 inches deep. If you are building something into a wall in a media room or something you have got that depth, it is better bank for the buck basically.
They work essentially just like a regular TV. They have the same adjustment. They do not have the old conversion. See in old CRTs there where three lenses and you have to go and converged them. DLP’s, LCD’s both Rear Projection formats are now do not have that so there are really no adjustments other than adjusting the color and the contrast just like you would a regular TV.
The one thing that you do need to know is that all the new Rear Projection run on the bulb whether it be metal highlight or Zeon depending on the format of the TV. They are run on a bulb that is going to last about 2,000 to 5,000 hours depending on usage and it is bulb. Just like a light bulb some last longer. That bulb is not inexpensive it is going to run $200.00 to $400.00. Once every couple of years you are going to put a new bulb in it. The nice thing is when you do that it looks like a new TV again because has your time gets up on the bulb the TV gets a little darker such looking more at you put the new bulb in, bam look just like a new one.
It is okay the price points now that is a very important thing to discuss. For example 15 inch plasma has come down a lot in price. You can get nice 50 inch plasma in the $2,000.00 range but you can get a nice 50 inch Rear Projection device $1,200.00 to $1,300.00, I mean if it is a budget issue and you have the space available for it and you are not sitting to close. The nice thing is this like plasmas for example off angle, you can look this close and they look fantastic. Rear Projection like this when you have to be six to eight feet back then that all effect just does not matter as much.
Folks, just remember that the key things when a looking at the Rear Projection is the space it is going to take, the angle of which you are going to sit and the distance and if all those add up for you it maybe the right piece to buy for you.
Well, that is about it for Rear Projection. Thanks for watching.
