Space Invaders! The first game we'll demonstrate, is the Granddaddy of Outer Space Shoot 'em Ups . A game of worldwide popularity, who's coin out version caused the Yen shortage in Japan.
A game that could not be won, no matter how good the player became, despite the fact the tournament level players have found strategies allowing them to play this cartridge for hours on end, without losing as much as a single laser canon.
Most people still can't score 500,000 points. They don't even realize they can shoot through own barriers. If you know Space Invaders, you will notice that we have two shots on screen here at a time.
Although, a normal game only allows one at a time. Any crafty player can take advantage of a strange bug in the program and double his fire power. How? Simple, with the power to the console turned off, hold the reset button down, then turn the power ON, let go off the reset button and the game begins, allowing double shots, that's all there is to it.
But even using double shots, Space Invaders is not an easy game, you need strategy and we have got it.
Each time you complete a wave, another takes it's place. Watch out! Each darts are real closer to your lasers base. Here is wave one, here is wave two, and here is wave three. The fourth wave starts so low that you no longer have any barriers to hide behind.
So here we are at wave five, where the invaders begin as low as possible. All waves after this one will be identical. Get a jump on this wave by holding the joystick to the right, before the action begins, and have your thumb ready to hold the fire button down.
Here is the pattern in slow motion, eliminating the first two invaders in the second column from the left. Then with the series of moves, stop! Fire twice maneuvers, kill two invaders in each column, all the way to the right side of the screen, and wipe out that column. You must do this in time to get back to the left hand column, and wipe it out, or at least the bottom invader, before he drops down to ground level.
Now you are left with this phalanxes of sixteen invaders, four rows by four columns. If you want to build up a lot of bonus points by waiting for mother ships to pass over head, eliminate these two rows, making sure you leave eight invaders on screen, any less, and the mother ships will not appear.
Now just bide your time, dodging the eight invaders left and killing the mother ships as they pass over head. If you don't care about bonus points, and just want to start a new wave, then eliminate this column, nail the mother ship once, then wipe out the remaining invaders.
