All right folk’s a lot of people have asked me about accounting drum base. I find it very difficult which it is actually. It is one of the most difficult types of modern day music to count BPM and because there is so much going on right. Two things you can do. One, the first, being a bit silly and that he is counting every single beat which whereby you would be going 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 and very fast.
The other one is where kind of have just a base beat. What we are going to do, we are going to look at three different types of drum and base. Three different tracks Adam Matthews Music in My Mind, we have got beat featuring Nazalin Sweet Love and then one of my favorite which is Earl Gray and it is Oblivion Express. It is rugged 16. The first one is an intricate type of German base whereby what the producer does; he actually starts of that say with a base beat and goes high-hat, base high-hat, base high-hat.
And then what he will do, he will go high-hat base, high-hat base, high-hat base, base high-hat. He is almost turning the beat the other way around which to the person that is not used to drum and base it sounds all over the place but like with most types of modern day dance music. All you have got to do is listen concentrate and anyone eventually when get used to it you can count the beats per minute and get used to counting the bars.
What we will do first of all if we start at the beginning of the beat. We will find it first. Okay there we go so what we will do we will count. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12,13, 14, 15, 16 17, 18, 19, 20, 22, 23 24. Bear in mind if I was counting that for 30 seconds. I would double it okay. So again you look at your watch and you count how beats are in 30 seconds and double it okay. But this is what I was saying earlier on if you did that. You would be talking as though you are a mad man.
This is how you count it half beat. It is a lot easier bearing in mind a very important. If you do this counting with half beat with one drum and base record. It is advisable to do them with all of them. So we get that started. We are doing 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27, 28, 29, 30, 31, 32. Right now then did you notice as well after 32 we have a slight change which was this.

We had more going on. Now believe it or not after counting 32 a half beat. I actually counted two bars. In other words 1, 1, 2, 3,2, 1, 2, 3, 3, 1, 2, 3, 4, 1,2, 3 and then you had a break. So even with intricate drum and base you can still count the bars. Now what we will do. We will go in to something slightly more commercial.
