How to Do the Basic Six-Step Breakdance
The Basic Six Step Step 1: Begin with all four limbs of the dancer placed on the dance floor. The chest is facing downward toward the floor and the arms and legs are relatively straight. Step 2: Move the left foot between the right foot and hand. As the left foot moves between the right arm and leg, lift the right arm off the dance floor. Step 3: Shift the right foot to the front and beside the left foot. Then rotate the right hand up and over the body, so that you are now on all fours again but facing up instead of down. Step 4: Straighten out the right leg in front of the dancer and at the same time raise the left off the dance floor. Keep in mind that this is one fluid motion and not two separate dance moves. Step 5: Swing the right leg around towards the left side of the breakdancer. At the same time, lift the left leg high enough so the right leg can travel underneath it. Step 6: Bring the hands and legs back and return to the original breakdancing position, completing the six-step footwork move in breakdancing. ------------------------------------------------ Breakdance, breaking, b-boying or b-girling is a street dance style that evolved as part of the hip hop movement among African American and Puerto Rican youths in the South Bronx of New York City during the early 1970s. It is normally danced to pop, funk or hip hop music, often remixed to prolong the breaks, and is a well-known hip hop dance style. A breakdancer, breaker, b-boy or b-girl refers to a person who practices breakdancing. Since its inception, breakdancing has provided a youth culture constructive alternative to violent urban street gangs. Today, breakdancing culture is a remarkable discipline somewhere in-between those of dancers and athletes. Since acceptance and involvement centers on dance skills, breakdancing culture is usually free of the common race, gender and age boundaries of a subculture and has been accepted worldwide. -- Entry from Wikipedia.org
