Hi everyone my name is David Castle and today I am going to teach you how to do the cut and restore rope trick. This is a classic of magic and magicians have been doing this for a very long time.
First I am going to show the performance. You show a regular solid piece of rope, taken place at the ends together just like that. It is important that you find the middle, you bring the middle up to the top, and you take and cut it just like that. Next, what the magician does is of course bringing the ends down just like so, so you got two pieces. They can tie the top two together and you get a nice tight knot, okay.
Now, if you just blow on the knot, you can actually take and move it just like magic off the rope and you are back where you started with the solid piece of rope. Now, for the tutorial. There is only one secret move you have to learn, okay. All you need is a regular piece of rope about that wide in diameter and a pair of scissors, okay.
Now, you start by showing the rope is solid, okay. Next, you take the two ends and you put them together, okay. So the rope is in half, two pieces just like that, that is in half. Now, here is the secret move, at the bottom find the middle, okay.
I take it and put my hand in here like this, everything but my thumb. Now, the secret was a little tricky, you bring all this up. Now, when you get to your point where your other hand is, okay. You are coming in here, you lay this piece against here, you cover this so people cannot see, and you bring this piece up just like so. Okay, so there is a switch that takes place. Once again, this is what the rope looks like. Okay, you grab the bottom, the middle, you bring it up. As you are coming out remember they do not see this. This is from the backstage area. You come in like this, you leave this piece here. Okay, you bring the piece underneath and up quickly and it creates illusion that you bring out the same piece. Okay, this will be the piece that is cut.
One more time, find the middle, bring that piece up, leave it there, the piece on the right underneath it comes up, and creates that loop. Okay once you get in this position, okay we have this piece up, they think that was the original piece you just take and cut it. Okay, you can let them feel this, it is really cut. Now, carefully bring down the two ends. Okay, you know how to bring down this gimmick or this piece of rope that makes the knot, the fake the knot, and then you want to bring down this one carefully.
Now you carefully hold this in your hand because if you did not hold on to it tight, this could slide out and the whole trick would be ruined. So, you want to hold this tight, this little loop piece right here because it creates the illusion that you have two pieces coming down.
Now, you take and you carefully tie a knot with these two pieces without them seeing of course this piece under here. You tie a knot just like that. Now, from here you have done all the hard stuff. You can let them pull the knot off, you can go back and forth and they will go how are you are doing that because when you think about it, it should be impossible. And eventually, you take that knot off the rope, you can let them keep this as a souvenir and you can show that the rope is solid.
This is a great illusion. I hope this video has helped you.
