Posture is no more than a good athletic position. Like any other sport, if you are in a good athletic position which means, if you are in a good balance and ready to move then you have a good support for your golf swing. Your posture is no more than the foundation, like a foundation for a building. If you do not take the time to make the foundation correct, your building is going to fall down. The same with the golf swing. If we do not take the time to make our foundation correct with out posture we are going to have a hard time making that good repeatable golf swing.
Let us take a look base and see how Kent get into his posture. Notice that he has feet about shoulder width apart. Not the distance between his toes but the distance between his heels are about shoulder width apart. You noticed that his body is aligned parallel to his target line. His shoulders are parallel through the target line. His hips are parallel, his knees, and his feet. Now, this is an important part to remember, the most important point to have parallel to your target line are your shoulders because that is what the club travels around. We get our hips, knees, and feet in line to help us align the rest of our body. Now since Kent is in this position, we can just have him simply hold the golf club out in front of him with his arms extended straight out, hope he takes that good balance grip. We let his arms hang until they touch the side of his chest. We have him bow to the golf ball, flex his knees and lay the club on the ground. Boom! Now makes a slight adjustment. He is in a good correct position.
Notice some key points here with Kent. The chin is up, his head is not down into his belly. The chin is up and that which that will make him—allow him to make a good turn and clear the left shoulder under his chin. Notice how his arms are hanging straight down like the rope, he is not out reaching for the golf ball. A quick little tip to remember here is you should have about one hand link between the golf club and your forward thigh or your left thigh. That will mean that your shoulders and your arms are hanging in a good position.
We noticed that his back and his spine angle is nice and flat. Now this is where we are all going to differ because we all have different spines. Some of us maybe a little more curved. Some of us maybe a little more bowed in our back. Whatever it feels comfortable for you. But we want to make sure we do though is we take our tail here and we stick our tail out by bowing to the golf ball and not bending form our waist. Okay. That is an important point to remember.
You can see form this position right here that Kent circle his traveling right around his shoulder line in really good position which in turn will allow him to square the club face back up at impact.
Let us quickly take a look at somebody that stands too erect or too upright to the golf ball. If you noticed a person that stands too upright to the ball is going to have a very flat golf swing. If you have a person that stands too hunched over or is bent over at the golf off the waist? That individual is going to have a very upright golf swing. So we want to make sure that our posture is correct. If you can remember these simple little steps, take your grip, extend your arms, straight up for Mondia. Let your arms hang until they touch the side of your chest. Bow to the golf ball, flex your knees and let the club rest in the ground, you will be in the correct position.
