Hi, this is the speed bag. Now, I am going to try to introduce you to the proper way of hitting the speed bag. The speed bag seems a little more complicated than it actually is but it is all about timing. When you hit the sped bag, you have two ways to hit it, with the knuckles and with the side of your fist. You kind of hit it like you are doing ice picking or fridge with an ice pick.
You start now and try to develop a rhythm. As when you hit the bag, the bag has to be hit 1, 2, 3, and then you strike the bag. So try to have a beat, or count in your head. It could be [demonstration]. Try to maintain that same rhythm of counting, [Demonstration].
Now, you make small circle of motions with your hand. Your hand will go below, your chin above your head, small little circles because if you go too high, you might end up hitting the bag and that will hurt. So you are going to make small circular motions, [demonstration] and as you get comfortable, then you can mix it up or pick up the speed and vary the type of way you want to hit the bag.
Again, start with your left hand for example [demonstration]. You can hit it this way and you can hit it this way [demonstration]. Basically, if you are learning, try to hit it three or four five times with one hand before you shift to the other one. [Demonstration] You can shift. [Demonstration] You can shift by a little bit, side to side. [Demonstration] If you are comfortable, you can pick up the speed. You can vary it. [Demonstration]
Again, try to have a rhythm set in your head. Once you get the rhythm going and you get the timing, the rest just follows. [Demonstration] Keep your hands close to the bag. The moment they go too far from the bag by the time you reach the bag, you will miss the rhythm. So again, it is all up in the rhythm. [Demonstration]
