Hi! I am Dave Epstein. I have got a tip for you today; those of you that grow peonies probably know this, they get tall, they flop over. What do you do? You use a peonies cage this is actually not specifically a peonies cage but it is a little bit of a cage for perennials, it allows the last perennial to grow up through it and it supports the perennial throughout the growing season. The problem is you got a get this on before the leaves really open up otherwise you going to have probably, which I do but I will show you how do it very carefully even with that.
Now I am late putting this on, it was down on the basement I should have done it probably about three weeks ago but I did not. So I have to be very care full but what you can do is you can take the peonies and reach underneath and literally guide them through very carefully. Now you got to be super careful folks if you break the peonies, you break the top of it that it will not flower until next year so that entire year of waiting will be for nothing.
But slowly push it down and then grab another one and you could slowly guide this up through and I continue to push down and notice that I am very carefully allowing the peonies plant to come on through the little holes here, the squares.
So what you can see is the peonies is now going to be supported so as this grows the base of it will be supported by this wonderful perennial support and again what you should do is get this on immediately when this bray crown so do not have to go through what I just did.
But it works and we have got another one over to the side that also I did early enough that you can see the peonies are already growing through it and this will support the peonies beautifully for those big heavy flowers which would be up in about another four weeks. Comeback every week for all of our tips, hints and helps at growingwisdom.com
