How to Say the Jewish Bathroom Prayer
Shalom! So what is a bathroom prayer? Well Judaism believes that we should be grateful to God for every thing in our lives and we should say a hundred blessings a day specially to make holy those things we take for granted. Part of the essence of Judaism is to make kaddish, to make holy.
And so, we know when parts of our body do not work, when we are sick, or things are broken, how miserable we are, but most of the time in our lives, most people thinks work. And there is a million things that could go wrong that do not and we should be grateful for that, just like in our day, we usually obsess about things that go wrong but so many things go right and we do not take the time to offer blessings.
For Judaism builds in any blessings and one of them is when you go to the bathroom. Now a lot of people do not know about this, so I wanted to read it first in English and then in Hebrew. Pulls the text below.
Blessed art though, oh Lord our God, ruler of the Universe who is formed human beings and wisdom and created in Him many passages and vessels. It is well known before Thy glorious thrown that if one of these be open or one of these be closed it would be impossible to exist and stand before you. Blessed are you Lord who art the wondrous healer of all flesh. You have to say that when you leave the bathroom.
I did not know about this prayer until I went to visit my Hasidic relative in Benny Brock, I left the bathroom, and they looked at me. So what is the matter and I said, aren’t you going to say the Brachot? And I was assigned hanging right outside the bathroom.
(Hebrew language)
Now I know some of you are wondering why am I using the actual name of God here even though there is no reason why I said this brachot now. Some people would say that is a blessing that is for not purpose. You should not use the actual name of God but I did self for educational purposes.
Any case that is the bathroom blessing and just to help us raise our consciousness, just like you supposed to say a brachot before you eat an apple, always be thanking God and be grateful!
