I would like to speak to you for a few minutes about 3P3 Your Formula for Success in the 2006 Hurricane Season. We have a saying in an emergency management, if you failed the plan, you plan to fail. You must have a plan, will you stay or will you go? Another saying we have is if you run from water you hide from wind?
In a few minutes I am going to show you lots of ways that you can hide from wind. I cannot tell you how to hide from water. You need to know your home’s elevation. That way this summer will be your on just comes on TV it says you are going to have 10 feet the storm storage then you know that your house has an elevation of 4 feet. You know you need to get out because you could have 6 feet or more a water in your house. Experts agree that if you do not do something to protect you windows and doors your home will likely fail if in wind and major storm in facts our area.
There is a law in the state of Florida that says that if you do something to protect all the doors and windows in your house, your insurance company must give you a discount. The bottom line is you will pay for hurricane protection whether you buy it or not. So now how do you protect your home? There are a lot of products out there. The basic Storm panels, those are corrugated panels made of metal or made even sometimes of black sand. They must be physically installed each time a storm threatens our area. There are heavy and they are cumbersome and they are not easy to install. They are also sharp and they are somewhat dangerous to install. But the biggest thing we all learn over the last of couple a years is it make sure your home is very dark when you have them on there.
Accordion Shutters, pound for pound, dollar for dollar are the strongest product that we make today. They can withstand tremendous amount of wind loads. They are durable. They are very easy to deploy once you installed. The only problem with them is they stay on your home 24/7 and they do not necessarily improve the look of your house.
Roll-Down Shutters are the Cadillac of the storm protection products. They can be used electrically. You can press a button and they roll-down or they can manually operate with a crane. They are very, very simple to use. They provides security, they provide privacy. In some cases they even make another room on your house. The draw back is they are not cheap. Roll Shutters are relatively expensive products. Today we make impact windows and doors that are very easy to use and they really do not change the appearance of your home. It provides 24/7 protection. They are very, very strong. You can see out of them just like you do in any other window. When you have impact windows in your home nobody knows that they are on. With the aluminum products you are basically telling people that you are not home.
Impact windows with the same whether they are open or close, lock or unlock. One of the few good things that has come out for all the storms we had lately is we develop a lot of new and innovated products. One of the once that we are most proud of is the Storm Catcher window bathe screen. That is a very light weight, geosynthetic product. That is a very simple to use. You can see through it. It is relatively inexpensive product and almost anybody can install it. The Storm Catcher Screen will block out 97% of all the wind and rain and certain the flying debris, so in other words if it is a 100 mile hour of wind outside the screen you will have it 3 mile hour of gust on the other side. We make them in a Roll-Down fashion, were you could crank them or they are motorized.
They are very easy to deploy. They safeguard your lanai. You can avoid that boxed and dark feeling because you can see through the screens. Another one of the pieces practice, simply because you purchased hurricane protection products or simply because you develop a plan does not mean in the time of emergency you will know how to use it. You need to practice, practice, and practice. So what is the 3P3 again, it is very simple you need to plan, plan, and plan. Prepare, prepare and prepare and practice, practice and practice.
