Host: Open heart surgery at Schneider Children's Hospital I know there were conferences all over the place involves the surgeon, the cardiologist, the people like you, all get together because you gain some things from surgery and some times you have problems with surgery. So usually the team effort before they do any kind of approach in terms of a surgery, is that true?
Andrew D. Blaufox: Yeah absolutely. Children with congenital heart disease often require surgical intervention and any procedure, any intervention you have to weigh the benefits and the risk associated with that procedure, and a whole team of experts talk about the procedure to be undertaken and the different strategies that might be employed so that we can pick the best strategy for every individual patient.
Host: And there is sort of like a hybrid type of approach, sometimes in surgery, sometimes a surgeon, they just sort of get together so you can have less evasive surgery and do a little bit more with a careful factor sometime.
Andrew D. Blaufox: Hybrid approach is becoming more and more utilized in various centers across the country and the main goal that is to try and diminish the need for extensive surgery and putting patients on cardiopulmonary bypass for long periods of time which may have some neurological consequences down the line.
