Hey! What’s going on this is Ian Morris from Ford. Today, I’m here to teach you martial arts. And pretty much, how we can use it. Not for combat but for cardio. Today, we’re going to be working with a staff, that’s a wooden stick, it could be long. And, we use it to hurt somebody. But today, we’re going to use it for cardio. Pretty much, this is what we’re using.
So now, we re going to start with a nice hand-over-hand, alright. When I say hand-over-hand, that means we’re locking and pushing all at the same time. We’re locking with one hand while also turning and grabbing until you could pick it up. And now, you also want to turn more so with your index finger also. That helps to build up the speed. So, you are also turning and grabbing. That’s the key in the spinning the staff. You want to make sure you’re locking and turning with the other hand at all times. Without that, you kind of end up with a lot of broken windows. Let’s say you want to do this for about let’s say a minute. Do it until you really get comfortable, then you could start doing other things like also outside this way.
So now, it’s a little different than your normal hand-over-hand, because now, we’re able to actually slide on the staff with our hands. We’ll start one hand open and one hand down across. So, you kind of grab and you’re pushing and turn. And then as you’re turning, pretty much you can not turn this way, that’s the reason why we bring it over to the other side. So basically, you are always locking and pushing and switching hands. So, you can never loose the step. Then it could look like this. If you have any wrist injuries or problems, ask your doctor about this because it could be helpful. Alright? That’s a good one. That would definitely get you in shape as far as toning your arms.
So now, we’re going to do the one arm swing. Pretty much, we’re going to start off with one arm and turn in and out. This is more wrist—wrist and shoulders. You don’t want to turn the body too much because then the stick is just going to fly to places. You want to make sure the stick is going right in front of you, alright? So now we can speed it up. And as you can see, I’m toning up my abs because you tend to do that when you’re not moving your body so much.
Now, all these moves that I’m showing you can be combined into a great routine which is normally done in martial arts, okay. So now, I’m going to speed that up.
Back into one. Have a good one.
