Hi! I’m Moe Harris and today, I’m at the locker room in Warrenton, Virginia. Today, we’re going over a few of our basic flair techniques that are hopefully not only going to have your guest is having a great time at your bar but hopefully having them give you a lot more money in the end.
Now we’re going to move on to a couple of techniques I use to ice of glass. You’re going to find that almost every drink you’re going to make is going to have ice and somewhere the other so rather than just ice up a glass like a regular bartender like that, why not do this with a little bit of flair. My first technique is just to putting ice in the glass with a little back hand and a little swoopy motion. You’ll see what I mean shortly. You’re going to find that whatever bar you work at, most of the glasses are going to be kept upside down. Whether it’s on a bar mat over here, whether it’s a behind you, whether it’s set up on a little rack, however, it’s at your bar it is going to be upside down. What’s nice about having it upside down, is when you grab a glass, its already in the position you want to be in, in this position because if you turn this thing upside down, we’ll holding this in the exact position that’s going to help us make these tricks successful.
So well that’s it. You’re going to grab your glass. You’re going to get your little scoop of ice and all essentially you’re going to do is in this position, put the glass in the ice, okay and then the swoopy motion I’ve mentioned earlier is just going to look like this. You might not see that great right now but when done quickly, it’s actually a really simple but really effective technique that a lot of people are going to look at and say what happen, all right here we go. Grab your glass, put it in, tap always under the points, and there you go.
Now, my second technique for icing up a glass is just icing up the glass like a regular bartender would but what you want to do is you want save the last ice cube. Essentially, here’s what I’m going to do. I’m going to toss that last ice cube up in the air and hopefully catch it in a glass. Now this is the motion that you want to practice and once you get good at that though eventually what’s going to happen is you’re going to do the same motion behind your back. So I'm going to ice up my glass, I’m going to save the last ice cube. I’m going to take behind the back, catch and points.
Next, we’re going to work on a couple of point techniques that are simple but effective.
