And let me give you as we are closing up, and I want to take a couple of questions, a tip that I think will be of great help to you in terms of your communications immediately. It sounds a little weird, but it's one of the best tips you get and you really have to work on this one.
Whatever follows a negative command, cannot not be followed. Whatever follows a negative command cannot not be followed.
Would you like an example? Don't think of a pink elephant. If you tell a child, don't go in the street, what are they thinking of? What you should be telling them is what you want them to do, not what you don't want them to do. So as a director, oh, don't be nervous in this scene. Don't look down. Don't worry.
Start communicating in the positive. Catch yourself each time you are using a negative. You might be talking with somebody and going, oh, don't worry, I can handle it. All they hear is worry.
Whatever follows the negative command is what sticks in the mind, so start thinking in terms of your sentences, catch yourself before you make your comment. Oh well, don't be late. What's the alternative to that, that would probably produce greater success? Be on time, please be on time, it's important. Don't be late or you are in trouble. You might as well kiss it goodbye.
If you would like to test this, here is something you can pull on a family member, but do it nicely. When they go to the store, tell them, remember the bread and don't forget the milk and watch what they bring home.
So I would like to hear from a couple of you, one thing you got out of tonight that you think might be of some assistance and help for you. Anybody? Oh God no.
