India accounts for about 40 million of the 75 million illegal small arms currently in circulation in the world. Binalakshmi Nepram is the secretary general of Control Arms Foundation of India who is one of the people trying to control this ever growing problem in India.

As every debate has two sides, the necessity of self-protection is inviting gun culture. If having the gun gives safety, what is the threshold point of shooting for self-protection. It will be an ambiguous statement again. The children will take the gun into their hands and BAM,BAM. Do we want this to happen? Instead of pressing the govt to extend protection,taking law into own hands is unacceptable. Like any other goods,equipment the price of the arms and ammunition will come down and be made available on the streets. Is taht what NAGRI attempts to do. Shooting for sports and owning of the guns by army and police is more than enough. We acn copy western culture for anything but not for this. All these NAGRIKS can spewnd their money and time is educating the poor and fight for their rights,instead of forming asn orgn to get their gun licences to be renewed on time.
