From the UK - A six-year British research program consisting of nearly 30 different studies have failed to show a link between cell phones and illness. The studies showed no effect of cell phone use on brain function and cellular biology, and their use was not associated with brain cancer.
From California - The cost of health insurance is climbing, outpacing wage increases and inflation. Over the past 5 years, premiums have increased by 78%, whereas wages have increased by 19%. The average family now pays over $12,000 for their health insurance, and some beneficiaries are having to pay higher premiums for being obese, having high blood pressure or abnormal cholesterol levels.
From Cambridge - New research is linking Autism to high levels of the male hormone testosterone. Researchers, testing fluid obtained from amniocentesis, found that high levels of testosterone correlated to the development of autism later in life. While a causal link hasn't been established, testosterone may negatively affect the connections between developing brain cells.
And finally, from Florida - Teenage girls who start a diet are at higher risk for starting smoking. A study of over 8,000 adolescents shows that girls who start dieting are two times more likely to start smoking. The effect wasn't noted in boys.
