Jennifer Williams: Good nutrition is important for the patients I see because I see patients before during and after their hospitalization. And better outcomes are seen in patients, who are well nourished then patients who are malnourished.
Shahram Hormozi: A patient who has good nutrition is healthier and nutrition and health go hand-in-hand, they're more active, they feel better; the more active they are, they more they get done and the healthy they feel. So, I think it's very, very important part of a patient's health and the nutrition is essential.
Jennifer Williams: We're just surrounded by fast food and things that are quick to grab and not always as nutrient dense as some of your more fresh items or whole foods. We're also just a fast paced society in general, so a lot of us don't think about what we are putting into our mouths for nutrition.
Shahram Hormozi: Today's lifestyle interferes a lot with nutrition, we're always on the go; jobs take priority, there is always a deadline and so there are always a lot of things to do. What suffers what suffer the most is two things, nutrition and sleep. So, either you sleep deprive yourself or you don't eat or even worse, you eat, but you eat junk food. Always on the go, pick up something at the drive through and you are not getting a balanced nutrition.
Jennifer Williams: I ensure that my patients get the best balance of nutrients by recommending that they get a variety of foods. So, we talk a lot about how many servings from each food group that they should consume, and then within each food group to make sure that they choose a variety of different foods. So, for example, with fruits and vegetables to make sure that they choose lots of different colorful vegetables something red, something yellow, something green, something white just to make sure that they are getting a variety of different vitamins and minerals and trace elements throughout the day.
Shahram Hormozi: Three meals a day and they have to balance those meals. They have to be eating all the major food groups and all of them in moderation.
Jennifer Williams: I think for anyone who is suffering from an acute or chronic medical condition, the most important thing to know is that malnutrition or being well nourished will enhance the out come of their illness, whether it's acute or chronic. So, nutrition plays a very important role in the progression of disease or the onset. So, nutrition plays a very important role in either the onset or progression of disease, so it's very important to stay well nourished through out the life span.
Shahram Hormozi: Maintain an adequate and balanced and proper nutrition. It will help you in any situation. You are what you eat, and the healthier you eat, the healthier you will be and the healthier you will feel. And that would lead to a healthier lifestyle and being more active and even heart healthy.
